Watch: Seattle Kraken's Brandon Montour reveals which Olympic sport he would've loved to compete in
Brandon Montour, the newest member of the Seattle Kraken, signed a seven-year, $50 million contract on July 1. The defenseman, who won the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers last season, is ready for a fresh start in Seattle.
In a video shared by the Kraken, Montour answered some personal questions from a reporter. It was revealed that his favorite sports team outside of hockey is the LA Lakers, and he named LeBron James as his best athlete of all time. When asked which Summer Olympic event he would choose to compete in, Montour replied:
"I'm a big fan of basketball, so watching basketball is pretty cool. But probably the 100 meters."
When asked about a potential new nickname, Montour said:
"Lately, it's been simple. Monty. Monty's probably the best one."
Brandon Montour also shared his last TV show binge:
"Presumed Innocent. I took a longer flight here and crushed that one."
His most used emoji?
"Probably the crying, laughing face," he said.
Montour's initial impressions of Seattle were positive:
"Yesterday was beautiful. I honestly don't know too much. Been here, obviously, playing them a few times, but still getting used to the area. We got a few days to kind of tour everything, so I'm looking forward to it all."
Montour ended the interview on a personal note:
"Just obviously very goofy. You know, love each day and always have a smile on my face."
Brandon Montour brought the Stanley Cup to his hometown
Brandon Montour brought the Stanley Cup to the Six Nations of the Grand River reserve. The defenseman, who won the Cup with the Florida Panthers, was greeted warmly by his hometown of 1,500 residents on July 24th. He used the opportunity to inspire local youth:
“I was a kid once and I grew up idolizing players, not just hockey but lacrosse and I think when you have one of your own or somebody that's close to, even if you don't know me, reaching this level, especially on a day like today, it's just a bonus for any kid growing up that wants to reach that level." Last summer, the community celebrated Brandon Montour’s Panthers' run to the Stanley Cup Final and raised $10,000 for local sports. This year’s event included a two-mile parade with fans wearing Montour’s Stanley Cup champion T-shirts.
Chief Sherri-Lyn Hill called Montour “an inspiration” and “a positive role model,” according to NHL.com. To add, one of the most excited attendees was 99-year-old Helena Logan, who described the event as “just wonderful.”
