Watch: Winnipeg Jets troll 'Better Call Saul' star Bob Odenkirk on jumbotron
The Winnipeg Jets fell quite short during their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday, losing 1-4. However, they had a special fan in Bob Odenkirk, who was noticed in the galleries at Canadian Life Centre.
Bob Odenkirk is best known for playing lawyer Saul Goodman in the Breaking Bad franchise. After being introduced in Breaking Bad, he played the titular character in the spin-off show, Better Call Saul. The 62-year-old started off his career as a writer on sketch-comedy series like Saturday Night Live before transitioning into full-time acting.
He was recently shooting the second film in the Nobody franchise in Winnipeg. The first part was released in 2021, where Odenkirk plays a family man going back to his ex-assassin life. The movie is also expected to star Sharon Stone.
During one of the breaks, the jumbotron at the Canadian Life Centre started the interactive game 'Celebrity Lookalike' with the Saul Goodman character. The camera spotted Bob in the crowd as he smiled, gave a thumbs-up, and waved while the Jets fans cheered him on.
Winnipeg Jets have an illustrious list of celebrity fans
Bob Odenkirk hails from Illinois and is not a Jets fan by a long stretch. While the 'Better Call Saul' guy isn't part of the fandom, the Jets have other celebrities on their side.
Arguably the biggest name among them is professional wrestler Chris Irvine, popularly known as Chris Jericho, who grew up in the city of Winnipeg. Chris' father, Ted Irvine, played in the NHL, primarily for the New York Rangers. Chris didn't support his dad's team, however, sticking to his local roots and becoming a die-hard Jets fan.
Other fans include country music group Doc Walker, artist Burton Cummings, and well-known Canadian children's entertainer and musician Fred Penner.
All of these celebrity fans should be proud of their team's results thus far in the season. The Jets have 40 points from 29 games - all of them coming from wins. This earns them the second spot in the Central division of the Western Conference.
However, the Jets were outplayed by a lower-ranked Blue Jackets on Sunday night. Columbus scored three times in the final period after the game was tied at 1-1. Kent Johnson scored twice for the road team. Kyle Connor was the sole goalscorer for the Jets.
