"We've played just fine": Detroit Red Wings HC Derek Lalonde makes his feelings known after fourth straight loss
Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde shared his thoughts after the team's 2-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday, their fourth straight defeat.
The Red Wings find themselves in seventh place in the Atlantic Division, holding a record of 10-12-4 and accumulating 24 points over 26 games.
In his assessment, Lalonde stressed the importance of staying confident despite the recent setbacks and encouraged the team not to dwell on their losses. After the game, Derek Lalonde said (5:33):
"Well, not feel sorry for ourselves again. We've played just fine of late. We've been gobbling up some points just finding a way to get these over the finish line."
Lalonde was impressed with his team's discipline on the ice:
"PK was a step forward. I've actually liked our PK structure of late, just finding ways to sting us and end up in the back of the net. Tonight's the night that we had good structure on it. This is a game you hope to take at least a point of. Unfortunately, we didn't there in the end."
Lalonde's comments highlight the Red Wings' commitment to resilience and optimism as they look to improve moving forward in the season. However, Detroit's story has been familiar this year, as they have struggled to secure wins.
In their last four games, the Detroit Red Wings have fallen short by just one goal each time. This marks a concerning trend, as the team has now scored two goals or fewer 14 times in 26 games this season.
The Red Wings will hope to end the slump when hosting the Colorado Avalanche at Little Caesars Arena next on Saturday. The puck drops at 7 p.m. ET.
How Ottawa Senators downed Detroit Red Wings
On Thursday, the Ottawa Senators ended their two-game losing streak after beating the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 at home in the Canadian Tire Centre.
Josh Norris opened the scoring for the Senators after giving them a 1-0 lead at 12:14 of the first period. This was the only goal scored in the period.
Alex DeBrincat scored on a powerplay at 6:15 of the second period to tie it 1-1 for the Red Wings against his former club. However, this was the only goal the visitors scored in the game, as Norris' second goal, with less than a minute remaining, secured the win for the Sens.
