Montreal Canadiens strengthen their roster by drafting Ivan Demidov among other additions

The Montreal Canadiens traded for Patrik Laine from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday, grabbing headlines. Earlier, they made news by drafting Ivan Demidov and Michael Hage in June at the 2024 NHL draft.

The Canadiens selected Demidov in the first round with the fifth overall pick. The 18-year-old forward had an impressive season in Russia's MHL, scoring 23 goals and 60 points in 30 games. He also led his team to an MHL Championship and won the league’s MVP award for the second year in a row.

Michael Hage, drafted 21st overall, had a quieter summer. After doing well at the Canadiens development camp, he’s heading to the University of Michigan to join the Wolverines hockey team. Hage will wear number 19 in his first year of NCAA competition. He’s expected to score around 30 points in his first season.
