"Whole team sign your jersey": Johnny Gaudreau's sister Katie shares throwback picture of jersey signed by her brothers' teammates when she was six
Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau's deaths in late August left the entire NHL community grief-stricken. Since then, the Gaudreau family has reminisced fond memories of their loved ones, with fans doing the same.
On Friday, Johnny Gaudreau's sister Katie posted a throwback picture of a signed jersey on her Instagram stories. The image featured an orange shirt signed amateur with black markers that Katie mentioned was from when she was six years old.
"Just hockey sister stuff.. have your brothers whole team sign your jersey at 6 years old", Katie wrote in the caption.
She also tagged some of her brothers' former teammates in the picture.
Last week, Katie shared an Instagram post recalling one of her favorite memories with her late brother Johnny. The post included nostalgic photos of the siblings, Johnny’s wife Meredith, and a few close friends.
In the post, Katie recounted a summer night in Princeton, when Johnny jokingly pretended to fight her at a bar. The situation was misunderstood by the bouncer. The bouncer attempted to kick Johnny out but Katie immediately went to her brother's defense.
"I proceeded to cry (not surprised) and try to explain how we are brother and sister and were just joking, he didn’t care. I said to the bouncer ‘you kick him out… you kick me out’"
Ultimately, both siblings were kicked out of the bar.
"Mer and Dev were over our nonsense but took the trip to Sea Isle to crash Kristen’s friends bachelorette party," Katie wrote.
Katie described how Meredith and their friend Dev rolled their eyes at the siblings’ antics before the group decided to head to Sea Isle to crash a friend’s bachelorette party. Katie concluded the story by calling it “the best night ever.”
Johnny Gaudreau's mother expresses her gratitude for love from fans
Earlier this month, the Calgary Flames paid a special tribute to the late Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew during a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Scotiabank Saddledome.
The evening featured a video montage, a ceremonial puck drop with the Gaudreau family, and the unveiling of a memorial bench made from hockey sticks left by fans. The entire Gaudreau family flew to Calgary to attend the event.
Following the tribute week, Johnny Gaudreau’s mother Jane Gaudreau shared her gratitude on Instagram. She reflected on Johnny’s decade-long career with the Flames and the support shown by Calgary fans.
"Thank you to the Calgary Flames Organization, the players, their families and the fans of Calgary for everything you have done for our family. Being back in Calgary and reconnecting with friends and our favorite places was truly special.
"The Flames Organization and the incredible fans of Calgary have been an important part of our lives for over 13 unforgettable years and coming back was very therapeutic and healing for us."
She then thanked the Flames and the fans in Calgary and mentioned that their family looks forward to visiting them again.
