William Nylander hilariously admits having difficulty in identifying John Tavares and Max Pacioretty apart on ice
William Nylander is getting success with linemates Max Pacioretty and John Tavares on the Toronto Maple Leafs. They showed their potential in Thursday’s game against the Seattle Kraken. Nylander's two goals helped the team win. The trio combined for five goals and eight assists in its first two games, showing strong chemistry.
Nylander also joked he found it difficult to distinguish between Tavares and Pacioretty on the ice and thus had to double-check who was who.
“Off the ice, even on the ice sometimes, I feel like if I look fast I don’t know which one’s which,” he said, via Mark Masters. “They got black sticks, black tape and everything. So they’re very similar in their ways. They have quite a long time, so they know what they need to do to get ready for a game.”
The second line's early success has given coach Craig Berube confidence in its ability to score. He noted how the players' skills work well together.
“Pacioretty’s a physical player. He’s getting in there and creating a lot of space for these guys, in my opinion,” Berube said, via theleafsnation.com. “JT’s really strong on the puck right now, doing a good job there. Willy puts it in the net. I mean, it’s a pretty solid line.”
Matthew Knies highlights effective line with Max Pacioretty, William Nylander and John Tavares
Forward Matthew Knies pointed out how effective their line has been.
“I think they’re working well,” Matthew Knies said (after the game). “I think Max (Pacioretty) has been very physical, creating those puck battles, Willy’s finding the net and Johnny’s supporting everywhere. They’re really beginning to click here.”
A key moment arose when Pacioretty battled off two defenders to set up Nylander for a goal.
Tavares also shared his thoughts on playing with Nylander and Pacioretty. He said his long history with Nylander improves their teamwork. He also praised Pacioretty’s experience and smart play. The three players are learning to understand each other better, which is important for creating scoring chances.
The Maple Leafs are still finding their rhythm, and William Nylander, Pacioretty and Tavares are key players to watch.
