WWE Intercontinental Champ Sami Zayn makes blunt Connor McDavid claim after Oilers' Game 5 win
The Edmonton Oilers beat the Florida Panthers in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final, 5-3. WWE Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn lauded Connor McDavid after the game on X. Zayn loves hockey and is a fan of the Montreal Canadiens. But it seems likely he is backing the Oilers this time.
"Connor McDavid is not from this planet," Zayn tweeted.
McDavid showed exceptional skills with a slick assist on a power play in the second period. He smoothly skated past a Panthers player at center ice and evaded Dmitry Kulikov and Niko Mikkola's defense. McDavid then passed the puck to Perry, allowing him to score the fourth goal of the game.
McDavid's impact didn't stop there. He scored twice and added two assists, making him the first player to record back-to-back four-point efforts in the Stanley Cup Finals. McDavid did not get to score in Game 1 shutout loss. But since then, he has scored three goals and eight assists in five games against the Panthers.
McDavid became the third player in NHL history to achieve 40-plus points. He joined legends Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux. With eight goals and 34 assists, McDavid is close to challenging Gretzky's record of 47 points in a single postseason. But this might only be possible if the Oilers force a Game 7.
"Fun time of the Year", Connor McDavid is enjoying the postseason
Connor McDavid shared his excitement about the playoffs and called it the most enjoyable time of the year.
“Playoffs are the most fun time of the year,” McDavid said (via NHL.com). “Special with this group. Special with our city, our fans. They make it so fun to go on these runs. I’m really excited to see the energy they bring on Friday night.”
McDavid leads all players by a big margin, and teammate Evan Bouchard is far behind in second place. His play has been important in pulling Oilers out of a 3-0 series deficit against Florida. Throughout the playoffs, McDavid has played strongly during even strength and on power plays. He averaged over 23 minutes per game.
McDavid has scored in every series, from the Los Angeles Kings to the current series against the Panthers.
