"You kick him out, you kick me out": Johnny Gaudreau's sister Katie recalls her "favorite memory ever" of siblings getting kicked out of bar
On Wednesday, Johnny Gaudreau’s sister Katie shared a heartfelt Instagram post recounting one of her cherished memories with the late NHL star. It included a carousel of nostalgic photos featuring the siblings, Johnny’s wife Meredith and a few of their close friends.
Katie detailed the story from the summer night filled with laughter and chaos. She shared the incident at a bar in Princeton, New Jersey, where Johnny jokingly pretended to fight her.
The joke was misunderstood by the bouncer, who attempted to kick Johnny out. Katie went on to defend her brother immediately.
“My favorite memory ever. One summer night…. John, Mer, Devin, and I bought matching sweatshirts (John obviously bought). John pretended to fake fight me at The P @princetonavnj . The bouncer went to kick him out not knowing it was a joke,” she wrote.
“I proceeded to cry (not surprised) and try to explain how we are brother and sister and were just joking, he didn’t care. I said to the bouncer ‘you kick him out… you kick me out’… well he kicked me out.”
Despite her protests, both siblings were ejected, while their friends, Meredith and Devin, looked on. The night didn’t end there, though, as the group traveled to Sea Isle City, New Jersey, to crash their sister Kristen’s friend’s bachelorette party.
“Mer and Dev were over our nonsense but took the trip to Sea Isle to crash Kristen’s friends bachelorette party. Best night ever,” Katie concluded.
Johnny Gaudreau’s mother expressed her gratitude for Calgary Flames’ tribute week
The Calgary Flames honored the late Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew during a tribute game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Scotiabank Saddledome last week.
The emotional evening included a video montage, a ceremonial puck drop involving the Gaudreau family and the unveiling of a memorial bench created from hockey sticks left by fans at Johnny's memorial.
On Tuesday, Johnny Gaudreau's mother, Jane, shared her gratitude in an Instagram post following the event. She expressed how therapeutic it was for the family to return to Calgary, where Johnny had spent over a decade playing for the Flames.
“The Flames Organization and the incredible fans of Calgary have been an important part of our lives for over 13 unforgettable years and coming back was very therapeutic and healing for us. The friendships we’ve built here have become like family, and we will forever cherish the memories we’ve created together,” Jane Gaudreau wrote.
Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew died after being allegedly hit by a drunk driver on Aug. 29 while cycling in Salem County, New Jersey. Police released body camera footage showing the driver Sean M. Higgins admitting to drinking earlier that day.
Tests reportedly showed his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit. Higgins faces charges of vehicular homicide and could face up to 20 years in prison.
