Zach Werenski's 8-game point streak elicits 3-word reaction from fiancee Odette Peters

Columbus Blue Jackets alternate captain Zach Werenski made history during their 6-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. Werenski’s two assists extended his point streak to eight games, breaking the franchise record for a defenseman. The record was previously held by Jaroslav Spacek and Bryan Berard at seven games.

The Blue Jackets’ official Instagram account celebrated Werenski’s achievement with a special post.

“Another one for the record books! Congrats on the longest point streak for a defenseman in team history, Z! 🎉”, the post was captioned.

Zach Werenski’s fiancée, Odette Peters, shared the post on her Instagram story, adding her own heartfelt message:

The Blue Jackets opened their five-game road trip with a win at United Center on the occasion. Six different players scored for Columbus, including Ivan Provorov, Kent Johnson, Sean Monahan, Dante Fabbro, Kirill Marchenko and Dmitri Voronkov. Zach Werenski, along with Damon Severson and Cole Sillinger, recorded multi-point games.

Chicago opened the scoring on the night with Connor Bedard’s power-play goal early in the first period, but Columbus quickly responded. Provorov then tied the game, and Johnson’s one-timer gave the Blue Jackets a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period.

The Blackhawks tied the game twice more with goals from Craig Smith and Nick Foligno, but Columbus responded each time. Sean Monahan scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, and Dante Fabbro added another in the third. Marchenko’s goal extended the lead, and Voronkov sealed the game with an empty-net goal.

After the matchup, Zach Werenski claimed his point streak didn’t matter much to him. He was more focused on the team’s win and how it was a good start to their road trip.

“Nothing really, to be honest. Just happy we got the win. Great start to our road trip. We’re going out west now, so it definitely makes it better getting a win,” the Blue Jackets star said. [H/T NHL]

Werenski also pointed out areas for improvement, such as limiting power-play goals against.

“We just played simple. We played hard. Obviously, we had a few power-play goals that we’d like to clean up. We just played a steady game,” he said.

The Blue Jackets have now earned points in six consecutive games, going 5-0-1 during that stretch, and remain undefeated when scoring six or more goals this season.
