NHL Rumors: Analyst predicts massive AAV figure for Jeremy Swayman's contract extension with Bruins
NHL analyst Ray Guarino predicted that a massive contract extension may be on the horizon for goaltender Jeremy Swayman with the Boston Bruins in the near future. Last year, Swayman signed a one-year, $3,475,000 contract with the Bruins.
In Wednesday's edition of NHL.com mailbag, Guarino wrote:
"Swayman could realistically get north of $9 million per season depending on the length of his contract with the Boston Bruins."
Guarino added that Swayman could be on the frontline for being the No. 1 choice to start games for the Bruins, as he shared the goaltending duties with Linus Ullmark last season. Ullmark was traded to the Ottawa Senators last month.
The pair helped the Bruins finish second in the Atlantic Division with 109 points. But they were knocked out in the second round by the Florida Panthers.
Can Jeremy Swayman be Linus Ullmark's replacement for the Bruins?
Jeremy Swayman will share his net safeguarding duties with Joonas Korpisalo in the 2024-25 season. Swayman started last season as deputy to Linus Ullmark and will now be looking to put a foothold in that place.
The trade of Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators saw Joonas Korpisalo come through the door for the Bruins. Swayman and Korpisalo look to battle it out for the starting position next season.
Swayman would be looking to keep Korpisalo out of the starting position as much as possible by being at the top of his game throughout the season. Korpisalo didn't have a particularly good season with the Senators in the 2023-24 season. He had a 21-26-4 record in 55 games with a goals against average of 3.27 and a save percentage of .890.
It will be interesting to see what approach coach Jim Montgomery and goaltending coach Bob Essensa take regarding the situation. Will the deputy to Linus Ullmark take the step forward, or will it be a clean slate for both parties involved?
