NHL Rumors: Bruins have cutoff communication with Jeremy Swayman after 4x6.2M offer
Boston Bruins starting goaltender Jeremy Swayman remains unsigned as training camp approaches, with rumors swirling about contract negotiations between Swayman and the team.
According to Spittin' Chiclets host Ryan Whitney, Swayman is seeking a contract similar to Charlie McAvoy's 8-year, $76 million deal with the Bruins.
"So, I have a pretty reliable source that told me... Current Swayman offer from the bruins 4X6.2. Their ask is the Mcavoy contract. So, that is not even on then same planet, that is so far away.” Ryan Whitney said.
Whitney claims the Bruins have not responded to Jeremy Swayman.
“And apparently the Bruins have not contacted or returned Swayman's calls in three weeks... And if their offer is four years X6.2, after you traded your other stud goalie. That's the funniest things I ever heard." Ryan Whitney added.
After trading away veteran goalie Linus Ullmark, the Bruins are relying on the 25-year-old Swayman to be their starter this season. He posted strong numbers last season, with a 2.34 goals against average and a .919 save percentage.
Fans react to Ryan Whitney's comments about Jeremy Swayman's contract situation
Bruins fans are buzzing online following Ryan Whitney's recent remarks about Jeremy Swayman's ongoing contract negotiations.
Many supporters are backing Swayman, arguing that the young netminder has earned a substantial payday after his impressive performances.
One fan tweeted:
"I wouldn't sign anything below $9.5m if I was Swayman."
Another fan questioned:
"Is Swayman really worth the numbers he’s asking?"
Here are some fan reactions:
"Last we heard Sway talk about this he was talking about how much the salary cap was going to go up which leads me to believe he's gotten a decent offer based on todays market and not a lowball offer like is described here. " one fan commented on X.
What a slap in the face to Swayman. I hope he leaves the Bruins and signs to a team who values him." another fan wrote.
"The lowball offer is because, they know they will get a lot better deal in arbitration than what Swayman is asking." a user commented.
"I bleed black and gold but realistically what's he proving. He has a losing record in the playoffs. Is he a top 10 goalie in the league? Probably but has he proved it yet? Has he paid his dues? No 7.5 max." another user wrote.
With training camp approaching, the pressure is mounting for both sides to find common ground.
