NHL Rumors: Elliotte Friedman reports Buffalo Sabres GM "does not wish to subtract"
Buffalo Sabres GM Kevyn Adams is looking to improve his team this season. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared in his 32 Thoughts column that Adams does not want to subtract players from the roster. Instead, he aims to add new talent to the team.
"One of the more active early-season general managers is Buffalo’s Kevyn Adams, but he’s made it clear he does not wish to subtract. He’s trying to add." Friedman wrote.
The Buffalo Sabres are off to a subpar start to the 2024-25 NHL season. They have lost six games, including one in overtime, in comparison to winning just four games.
But they have secured a win against defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers 5-2, although the Panthers took revenge with the same score in their second matchup of the season.
However, the Sabres have also managed to win over the Dallas Stars (4-2) who are considered gritty and can challenge the strongest NHL teams.
Additionally, they have scored 15 goals in the last four games and given up only 12 goals.
The Buffalo Sabres are currently placed fifth in the Atlantic Division, standing with 9 points.
But the competition is high in the Atlantic Division, which has strong teams like the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Ottawa Senators ranking in the first four positions with 10 or more points.
Florida Panthers took their revenge on the Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres played the Florida Panthers in a rematch after beating them 5-2 earlier this month. This time, the Sabres lost 5-2 at KeyBank Center on Monday.
Jesper Boqvist scored first for the Panthers at 11:01 in the first period. He beat goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen on a 2-on-1 rush. Sam Reinhart then made it 2-0 with a power-play goal 55 seconds later, assisted by Aleksander Barkov.
Jason Zucker put the Sabres on the board at 10:45 in the second period. He scored from the side of the net during a power play. Rasmus Dahlin tied the game 2-2 at 12:37. He shot the puck under Sergei Bobrovsky's arm after a strong play.
Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said,
“We missed our assignments, and (playing against) a team like that, they made us pay dearly."
Carter Verhaeghe scored again for Florida at 16:44, putting the Panthers ahead 3-2. Sam Bennett added another power-play goal at 14:35 in the third period. Barkov scored the final goal at 15:43.
