NHL Rumors: Insider reports Vancouver Canucks & $19.95M Brock Boeser are not concerned about extension

According to Insider David Pagnotta's The Fourth Period, the Vancouver Canucks and forward Brock Boeser – who is in the final year of his $19.95 million contract – are currently not concerned about a contract extension.

Boeser is focusing on his health as he prepares for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Last term, he faced a serious health issue due to a blood clot in his leg, which was only revealed during the playoffs.

Boeser has since been monitored and is now cleared to play, according to Irfaan Gaffar:

"There wasn't too much talk between the two sides over the summer at all. Most important thing is Brock is healthy and ready to go. Contract szn Boeser incoming."

Boeser is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. However, with his health concerns addressed, the forward aims to return to the level of performance he's shown in the past.

Pagnotta reported that for now, both Brock Boeser and the Canucks are prioritizing his health and performance, putting contract negotiations on hold until later in the season (via thefourthperiod.com):

"Contract talks during the summer were not extensive, primarily due to the concerns over his health, and negotiations could get going at some point this season. For now, neither side is concerned about his next deal," Pagnotta said.

Brock Boeser says he has "got a lot to prove" after coming off blood clot injury

Boeser recently expressed that he feels he has much to prove as he returns to play following his recovery from the blood clot. During the 40th annual Jake Milford Canucks golf event on Monday, he indicated that he plans to allow contract negotiations with the Canucks to unfold naturally as he enters the final year of his current deal.

He said (via Offside's Noah Strang):

"Coming off the blood clot, I think I got a lot to prove."

Boeser emphasized his determination to demonstrate his capabilities on the ice, showcasing his focus on performance rather than contract discussions at this time.

With 40 goals, Boeser finished off his 2023-24 campaign as the leading scorer for the Canucks. Overall, he accumulated 73 points in 81 games. In the playoffs, he garnered 12 points through seven goals and five assists in as many games.

Drafted No. 23 overall by the Canucks in the 2015 NHL draft, Brock Boeser has been with the club for the last eight years, accumulating 384 points through 179 goals and 205 assists in 479 games.
