NHL Rumors: Top insider David Pagnotta speculates $49,000,000 Calgary Flames forward may waive NMC clause
The Calgary Flames are in the news this Sunday as NHL insider David Pagnotta mentioned the possibility for the side to trade Canadian forward Nazem Kadri. The 33-year-old made his NHL debut as the seventh overall draft pick in 2009 as part of the Toronto Maple Leafs roster.
He went on to play in the AFL till he eventually returned to the main roster and had multiple successful seasons for the Maple Leafs. Kadri signed a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Flames on Aug. 18, 2022, coming off a career season with the Colorado Avalanche.
According to Pagnotta, Kadri could be on the brink of an exit from the Flames:
"My understanding with respect to (Kadri) is that he's willing to waive (the no-move clause) for the right situation. I think he would welcome a return to Colorado."
Given his skill set, it'll be interesting to see who lands the services of the experienced forward.
Could Calgary Flames replace Nazem Kadri with Anthony Mantha?
Anthony Mantha joined the Calgary Flames from the Vegas Golden Knights this summer. The trade for the player came at a heavy cost for the Flames as Matha joined their roster for a 1-year contract worth $3.5 million.
Mantha has been a reliable bench option for the Capitals and Golden Knights in the NHL over the last three years, as the forward has put together 75 points in that duration.
Kadri has been on a different level in comparison to Mantha, as Kadri contributed 75 points last season alone and his last three seasons amounted to 233 points. This included the 2021-22 campaign where the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
In the event that Nazem Kadri is traded to a different organization, the Calgary Flames would be very aware of the massive loss of points they would be missing out on and will be looking to recruit forwards who can step up and bridge the gap.
It will be interesting to see which players come up on the shortlist.
