NHL Trade Rumors: Kevin Weekes claims Hurricanes 'actively exploring' options on goalie market
On Tuesday, NHL insider Kevin Weekes reported that the Carolina Hurricanes are exploring options in the goalie market. This comes after injury concerns with their goaltenders, Pyotr Kochetkov and Frederik Andersen.
Weekes tweeted that Kochetkov is making positive progress in his recovery. He was injured during Saturday night's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets after a collision with teammate Sean Walker.
"Per sources, I’m told G Kochetkov is making positive progress in his recovery so far. However, with G Anderson still on post surgery timeline of 8-12 weeks, the Hurricanes are actively exploring Goalie market options."
Kochetkov was placed in concussion protocol and is day-to-day. He will miss the team's game on Wednesday but could return by the weekend.
Frederik Andersen is also out with a knee injury. He had surgery, and the expected recovery time is eight to 12 weeks. With both goalies injured, the Hurricanes are looking at potential options to add depth to their goalie position.
Kochetkov has been playing well this season with a 10-2-0 record, a 2.42 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. The team hopes Kochetkov will return soon. However, with Andersen out for a longer period, the Hurricanes are being proactive in securing another goalie.
