Seattle Kraken’s top 3 prospects to watch out for in 2024-25 season
The Seattle Kraken have one of the strongest prospect pipelines in the NHL, thanks to savvy moves and stockpiling draft picks. Despite missing the playoffs last season, the potential influx of young talent should keep the Kraken in the mix for the playoffs for years to come.
So, here’s a look at the top three prospects in the Seattle Kraken system, looking to make an impact on the NHL sooner rather than later.
Seattle Kraken’s top three prospects to watch out for in 2024-25
#3 Jagger Firkus
The 20-year-old winger was the Seattle Kraken's second-round pick in 2022. After a successful run with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL, where he scored a staggering 126 points in 63 games last season, Firkus looks to transition to the pros.
As such, Firkus should start the season with the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Nevertheless, Seattle Kraken fans should see him get a look at training camp this fall. Fiirkus should get a call-up to the big club at some point this season, especially if he plays well in the AHL.
#2 Shane Wright
Wright was surrounded by a great deal of hype following his selection in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft. After being rumored as the potential first-overall pick, Wright slipped to No. 4. That sent red flags to analysts, prompting questions about his ability to be an impact NHLer.
The Kraken rushed Wright to the NHL during the 2022-23 season, causing him to struggle in the eight games he played for them.
Now 20, Wright looks poised to make the team after a strong season in the AHL. His 47 points in 59 games are an indication that he could play a significant impact this upcoming season. If he struggles, the Kraken may have no choice but to send him down once again.
#1 Berkly Catton
Catton leapfrogged Wright as the Seattle Kraken’s top prospect, given the high ceiling he possesses. Catton’s ability to get past forecheckers and battle for pucks allows him to use his intelligence and puckhandling skills to good use.
Catton is expected to go back to the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL this upcoming season. However, following a 116-point season with Spokane last season, there isn’t much Catton needs to prove in Junior. He should make the leap to the pro game sooner than expected, perhaps joining the big club at some point in 2025.
Given the team’s experience with rushing Wright to the NHL, the Kraken will be more cautious with Catton. They should give Catton plenty of time to develop, especially considering that Catton is just 18.
