Top 5 Chicago Blackhawks prospects to watch out for in 2024 NHL season ft. Marek Vanacker
The Chicago Blackhawks' prospect pool has developed over the years. In addition to high-profile standouts like Connor Bedard, the team has promoted several prospects including Alex Vlasic over the past year. On the heels of the 2024 NHL Draft, several new additions will be made to the Blackhawks' player pool.
This year, the Blackhawks made three picks in the first and third rounds of the draft. They also made a fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick.
There have been questions about whether No. 2 overall pick Artyom Levshunov should go pro or return to college. However, the Blackhawks have since signed him to a rookie deal.
With Levshunov and a slew of draft picks added to the team's prospect pool, the franchise looks to develop more young talent.
Top five Chicago Blackhawks prospects to watch out for during the 2024 NHL season
#5: Gavin Hayes (LW)
Drafted in the third round with the No. 66 overall pick, Gavin Hayes has shown progress. Last season, in the OHL, he had to equally give his time to the Flint Firebirds A and the Soo Greyhounds. He then joined the USA Under-20 team for the WJC-20.
With 76 points last season, Hayes is expected to play for the Rockford IceHogs next season. He could wind up getting called up to the Chicago Blackhawks.
#4: Drew Commesso (G)
The Blackhawks drafted Drew Commesso with the No. 46 overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. He leads the Chicago Blackhawks' netminding prospects with a 90.6% save percentage.
Over 38 games with the Rockford IceHogs last season, Commesso finished the season with a 2.65 goals against average. Although he's been a part of the team's prospect pool for some time now, he is now finding his rhythm in the net.
#3: Sacha Boisvert (C)
Drafted with the No. 18 overall pick in this year's draft, Sacha Boisvert has impressed with his goal-scoring and playmaking skills. Last season, while playing for the Muskegon Lumberjacks, a USHL team, he finished with 68 points in 61 games.
Considered a top player in the Chicago Blackhawks' prospect pool, Boisvert could play for the University of North Dakota next season.
#2: Marek Vanacker (LW)
Mareck Vanacker was drafted with the No. 27 pick in this year's NHL draft. He led the Chicago Blackhawks' prospect pool with 82 points in 68 games last season. Vanacker impressed with his performances while playing for the OHL's Brantford Bulldogs.
As a talented two-way player, Vanacker has shown skills well beyond his age.
#1: Artyom Levshunov (D)
Artyom Levshunov was selected with the second pick of the 2024 NHL Draft.
Although he still has to develop as a player after joining Michigan State late last summer, the grace and athleticism he's shown is remarkable. With flashes of brilliance on both ends of the ice, Levshunov may be one of the top NHL prospects to watch this season, regardless of team.
