4 University of Texas athletes who won gold medals at the Paris Olympics 2024 ft. Julien Alfred
Paris Olympics 2024 are drawing to a close, and athletes from U.S. Universities have once again won several medals. The University of Texas is among the top schools with the most medal winners in Paris with medallists coming from varied sports.
Current and former students of Texas University have won more than 10 medals at the Paris Olympics. While most of the medals are from swimming, athletics has contributed to two gold medals this year with Ryan Crouser and Julien Alfred dominating their respective events in Paris.
#4. Ryan Crouser
Ryan Crouser was part of the University of Texas from 2012 to 2016. He won three national titles in shot put at Texas during the 2013, 2014, and 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Crouser’s throw of 21.73m is tied with the farthest throw in collegiate history.
Following his exit from the University of Texas, he won his maiden Olympic gold medal in the shot put at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Crouser defended the title at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and has now become the first shot putter in history to win the Olympic title three consecutive times at the Paris Olympics 2024.
#3. Julien Alfred
Julien Alfred joined the University of Texas during the 2018-19 season. She won her first maiden collegiate title with the school's 4x100m relay team at the Big 12 Championships. Alfred won the NCAA titles in the 100m and 4x100m relay in 2022. She received 11 All-American honors during her time with the Texas Longhorns.
Alfred competed in her maiden Olympic Games at the Paris Olympics 2024. The 23-year-old was deemed as an underdog in the 100m but convincingly beat USA's Sha'Carri Richardson to win the gold medal in 10.72s. Alfred settled for silver in the 200m dash behind Gabby Thomas.
#2. Hubert Kos
Hubert Cos is a Hungarian swimmer currently in his junior year at the University of Texas. He was part of the Arizona State University for two seasons in 2022 and 2023, where he won four Pac-12 titles in 200m IM, 100m backstroke, 400m medley relay, and 200m backstroke.
Kos secured the gold medal in the 200m backstroke with an impressive time of 1:54.26. Earlier in the semifinals and heats, he posted times of 1:55.96 and 1:57.01 respectively. The 21-year-old also competed in 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke, and 4x100m relay events.

Scottie Scheffler is arguably one of the best golfers in the world at the moment. He was part of the University of Texas from 2014 to 2018 before turning professional in 2019. Scheffler helped Texas win three Big 12 Championships and was named Phil Mickelson ’Freshman of the Year’ as well.
Scheffler is ranked No.1 in the PGA Tour Rankings and showcased his brilliance at the Paris Olympics 2024. He won the gold medal in the men's individual stroke play by one stroke. It marked the American’s maiden gold medal and one of many for the University of Texas from the Paris Olympics 2024.
