After Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Tokyo Olympic double champion Elaine Thompson-Herah reportedly parts ways with coach Reynaldo Walcott

Tokyo Olympics double gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah has reportedly parted ways with coach Reynaldo Walcott. The news sent shock ways in the track and field world after it was revealed yesterday that Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce who was one of the top pro athletes of the Elite Performance Track and Field Club decided to leave the club after four years.

Elaine Thompson-Herah began the 2024 season at the Prefontaine Classic after skipping the initial races. The Jamaican athlete struggled to perform in the race and finished last in her season opener. She then competed in the USATF NYC Grand Prix and clocked 11.48s. Thompson-Herah was seen struggling after the race as she limped off the track.

Soon after, she announced that she would not be participating in the Jamaican Olympic trials and decided not to continue her quest to defend her Olympic titles in the 100m and the 200m due to an Achilles injury.

Weeks after the Paris Olympics concluded, Jamaica Observer reported that the Tokyo sprint double champion had decided to make a major change that would have a profound impact on her career. As Elaine Thompson-Herah will be leaving Elite Performance Track and Field Club, she is reportedly in talks to return to MVP Track Club, which she was a part of from 2012 to 2021 led by coach Stephen Francis.

Elaine Thompson-Herah decided to withdraw from the Jamaican Olympic Trials afteher appearance at the New York Grand Prix. She took to Instagram to reveal the reason behind taking the ultimate decision and deciding not to defend her titles at the Paris Olympics.

"It’s never fun sharing news like this. But at the New York Grand Prix, I felt something in the race and still insisted on pushing, a couple steps to the line I realize something is really wrong. I sat on the ground because I couldn’t apply any pressure to the leg whatsoever as I was carried off the track," she wrote.
" I went quickly to get some medical check up and to found out that I have a small tear on my Achilles tendon. Funny enough I got back home with a strong mindset to keep pushing and prepare for my national trails another shot of my third Olympics but the leg wouldn’t allow me to," she added.

Thompson-Herah has had an impressive athletics career so far, winning six Olympic medals so far, among other accolades.
