Allyson Felix jokingly teases partnering with Danielle Collins for LA 2028 Olympics as track legend tries her hand at tennis
Seven-time Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix recently engaged in a funny banter with World No. 9 Danielle Collins. This comes after Felix was recently spotted playing tennis after the conclusion of her decorated track career.
Felix, 38, retired from the track and field circuit two years ago after the 2022 World Athletics Championships. However, the athletic spirit of the Los Angeles native was minimally affected due to this as she was recently seen on a tennis court, trying her hand at a new discipline.
In her new Instagram post, Felix could be seen working on her smashes and serves and also cheekily hinted at a tennis match in the future. In her post, Felix also remarked that she is enjoying practicing other sports such as tennis after her two-decade-long track journey.
"From the track 🏃🏽♀️ to the court 🎾 After 20 years on the track, it feels good to try new things. Perhaps a match is in my future?" she wrote.
United States tennis player Danielle Collins was quick to react to her countrymate, Felix's post and sarcastically asked the track legend whether she would need a doubles partner for her game. Replying to this, Felix jokingly referred to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and inquired if the next quadrennial event required their doubles team. She wrote:
"Does LA28 need us?
Allyson Felix played her last Olympic Games in Tokyo three years ago where she clinched two medals, a gold in the 4x400m relay event and a bronze medal in the 400m event. During her career, Felix participated in five quadrennial events and retired as one of the most decorated US track and field athletes in the Olympics with 11 medals to her name.
Track and field legend Allyson Felix shares her experience of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics
Allyson Felix recently opened up about the challenges she faced as an athlete while competing with her baby at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This came just a month ago during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
During a conversation, Felix stated that small practical things such as washing the bottles and the accommodation in the hotel rooms were the most challenging for her during the quadrennial event. She said (via PBS):
"When I went back to competition, it was flying with an infant. It was going to competitions, sometimes being assigned a roommate or having to wash bottles in hotel rooms. Just some of the smaller practical things that were challenging."
Owing to these challenges she faced in Tokyo, Felix took a first-of-its-kind initiative by setting up nurseries for the mothers participating in the Paris quadrennial event after becoming a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
