"Boxing style with undercards, betting"- Noah Lyles shares an update on 'racing' challenge with Dolphins wide-receiver Tyreek Hill
Noah Lyles shared an update on his 'racing' challenge with Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The Olympic champion claimed to be in talks but is waiting for the best opportunity to make the race a grand event. The two athletes have been involved in a to and fro on social media after Lyles won the bronze medal in the men's 200m at the Paris Olympics.
Soon after Lyles lost the top spot in the 200m finals to Letsile Tebogo of Botswana, the American athlete's comments from the 2023 World Athletics Championships resurfaced on the internet where he had questioned NBA champions calling themselves 'World Champions'.
"You know the thing that hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have 'world champion' on their head. World champion of what? The United States? Don't get me wrong, I love the U.S. at times, but that ain't the world," Lyles said at the 2023 World Championships.
In response to Lyle's comment, Tyreek Hill claimed he could beat the Olympic Champion in a race.
“Noah Lyles can't say nothing after what just happened to him. You know what I'm saying? Then he want to come out and pretend like he's sick. I feel like that's like horseradish. So, for him to do that and say that we're not world champions of like our sport, like come on, bro, just speak on what you know about, you know what I'm saying? And that's track. I would beat Lyles. No, I wouldn't beat him by a lot, but I would beat Lyles,” he said.
This led to great anticipation among fans to witness a one-on-one race between the two. After the Paris Olympics, Lyles spoke about the possibility of a contest between the two and gave an update in an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer.
"We’re in conversations. It’s not impossible. It’s more feasible than I think a lot of people believe it to be. But, if it’s done then it’ll be done on the highest level. I’m talking this is going to be boxing style with undercards, betting, big sponsors, Vegas, LA, Miami something that will bring in a big crowd with TV production," he said.
"It’s not just going to be in some backyard or some random track. This needs to be the highest level because that’s how America is. When we do something in entertainment, we do it to the highest level," he added.
Noah Lyles refuses to put up his Olympic medals in race against Tyreek Hill
Noah Lyles refused to put up his Olympic gold medals in a race against Tyreek Hill in an interview at the Dan Patrick show in August this year. The athlete laughed and had a witty response to the question, saying:
"What has he earned to deserve that status? He plays football and he is a great football player. But you don't get to jump the lines because you think you are fast. There are tons of those people in the world out there," Lyles said (9:40).
With Noah Lyles winning the silver medal in the World Athletics Indoor in the 60m and Tyreek Hill having the record of running one of the fastest 40-yard dashes in the NFL with a personal best of 4.29s, the upcoming clash between the two athletes has fueled great anticipation among fans on social media.
