"Does Noah Lyles still not understand that NBA players are the best"- Fans react as the American calls US Open winners 'World Champions'

Noah Lyles was in attendance at the women's singles final between Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula at the US Open. The American expressed his opinion on the winners of the US Open and called them 'World Champions'.

His comments on the NBA resurfaced after he won the bronze medal in the men's 200m at the Paris Olympics. Noah Lyles spoke about the NBA in a press conference at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, saying the winners of the NBA finals cannot call themselves World Champions as it is a national league.

"These are World Champions. International players that play against the top in the world constantly, these are world champions," he said at the US Open.

This comment brought about a lot of discussion among fans on social media and they compared it to his previous comments on the NBA.

"Does he still not understand that NBA players are the best players from around the world, and not just America?" wrote a fan.
" Bro tryna hold onto his relevance for dear life. See you in 4 years bro💀," another fan chimed in.
"Why does he hate the NBA and NFL so much, is there any backstory to why he continues yapping about this?" wrote another fan.

Here are some more fan reactions:

" To walk away from an entertaining recreational sporting experience think of tennis as something that could go from a short discussion to a long healthy discussion, or long argument spilling deep into the night," wrote a fan.
" Dawg the NBA has so many players from all over the world it ain’t just Americans in the league fam 😭😭😭," another fan tweeted.
"He’s clearly just clout chasing. Nobody covers track stars so he feels he deserves the spot like just as much as nba/nfl players. I understand but he just isn’t authentic he just comes off as a d*uche bag," another fan chimed in.

Noah Lyles won the gold medal in the men's 100m and the 200m at the World Athletics Championships and later spoke about the winners of the NBA finals.

"You know the thing that hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have 'world champion' on their head. World champion of what? The United States? "he said.
"Don't get me wrong, I love the U.S. at times, but that ain't the world...We are the world. We are the world. We have almost every country out here fighting, thriving, putting on their flag to show they are represented. There ain’t no flags in the NBA," he added.

These comments attracted a lot of criticism from NBA fans as well as players like Kevin Durant due to the recurrent nature of the discussion. Lyles continues to be under the radar of fans who keep fueling the discussion on social media.
