"First day back"- Simone Biles resumes training at World Champions Centre after record-breaking Paris Olympics campaign
Renowned gymnast Simone Biles has resumed training following a record-breaking performance at the recently concluded Paris Olympics. Biles concluded her successful Olympic campaign by increasing her overall medal count at the Summer Games to a total of 11, including seven gold, two silver, and two bronze medals each.
Biles, who was competing in her third Olympics for the United States, became the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history when she won her eighth overall medal after the women's team claimed gold in the team all-around event at the Paris Olympics.
Biles then bagged her second gold medal in the women’s all-around individual event with a score of 59.131 to become only the third female gymnast after Larisa Latynina and Věra Čáslavská to collect two Olympic all-around crowns. She then claimed another gold in the individual vault and a silver in the floor exercise to wrap up her glorious campaign.
After taking a break from gymnastics since competing in the floor exercise final on August 5, 2024, Biles has returned to training. She shared a glimpse of her training session on her Instagram story, with the backdrop of the World Champions Centre located in Spring, Texas. Biles captioned the story,
“First day back👀”
It’s worth noting that the World Champions Centre is owned by Biles’ family. Her mother, Nellie Biles, who adopted her when she was just six years old, was the one who suggested opening a gymnastics facility. As a result, the academy opened to the public in May 2016.
Simone Biles doesn’t rule out the possibility of competing in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028
Simone Biles hasn't completely ruled out the possibility of competing in the Los Angeles Olympics. During an interview with Hoda Kotb on NBC's Today Show, she was asked if she would participate in the 2028 games. Here's what the 27-year-old said in response:
“You never say never. The next Olympics is on home turf, so you never know.”
Los Angeles won the bid to host the Olympic Games during the 131st session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) held in Lima, Peru, on September 13, 2017. This will be the fifth time the United States will conduct the Summer Olympics, having previously done so in 1904, 1932, 1984, and 1996.
