Fred Kerley clinched a third-place finish at the Diamond League finals in Brussels
After not attaining a podium finish at the Zurich Diamond League meet in 2024, Fred Kerley came back strongly in the Belgian capital. The 29-year-old clinched a third-place finish in the Men's 100m event clocking a run time of 10.01 seconds.
Kerley's Jamaican counterpart, Ackeem Blake, won the 100m event after registering a run time of 9.93 seconds, the only athlete in the meet to breach the 10-second barrier at the meet.
After his third-place finish in the event, Kerley said his performance at the Brussels event didn't meet his expectations as he was aiming to win the Diamond League finals. The 30-year-old also reflected on the 2024 season saying (via Wanda Diamond League):
"I am only satisfied if I win and today I didn´t win unfortunately. But it has been a great season so I really can´t complain. I felt good throughout the season which is important. The fans today were good and for now I will have some rest."
Kerley also competed in the 200m distance event in Brussels held on Saturday (September 14). However, the two-time Olympic medalist failed to earn a top-three finish at the event. His United States counterpart, Kenny Bednarek, won the event clocking a run time of 19.67 seconds. Kerley finished fifth in the event with a run time of 20.21 seconds.
