From world record to gold medals: How much prize money did Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone earn in her 2024 season?

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's 2024 track and field season concluded with her victory in the Brussels Diamond League meet. The 25-year-old American sprinter won numerous USATF and global meets this season, earning over $135,000 in prize money.

McLaughlin-Levrone won two USATF events during the season: the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix (200m dash) and the USATF New York Grand Prix (400m dash). The New Jersey native earned a total of $12,000 from both events, with $6,000 earned from each event. In the US Olympic Trials 2024, McLaughlin-Levrone won the 400m hurdles event and earned approximately $11,000.

Next up for McLaughlin-Levrone was the Paris quadrennial event, where she won two gold medals in the 400m hurdles event and the 4x400m relay event. Additionally, she broke the world record in the 400m hurdles during her individual event.

The 25-year-old’s exceptional performance at the Paris quadrennial event earned her approximately $112,000 in total. She received $62,500 for winning gold medals ($50,000 for the 400m hurdles and $12,500 for the relay), and an additional $50,000 bonus for breaking the world record in the 400m hurdles.

Besides these major events, McLaughlin-Levrone also participated in various other meets, such as the Occidental Invitational, Mt. Sac Relays, and the HBCU Pro Classic. While the exact prize money amounts for these tournaments are not known, they likely contributed to her overall earnings.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone showcased her dominance by winning both invitational races she competed in at the 2024 Diamond League finals in Brussels.

On the first day of the event, the American dominated the 400m dash, winning the race with a time of 49.11 seconds. In the 200m dash on the second day, she produced another impressive performance to win the event by clocking a run time of 22.40 seconds.

Following her victory in the 200m event on Saturday, McLaughlin-Levrone reflected on her immensely successful 2024 track and field season. Besides, she also commented on the weather of the Belagian capital, saying, (via Wanda Diamond League)

"It was great to race here but to be honest I am just happy with my successful season and with how everything turned out. It was a little bit warmer than yesterday, but still very chilly conditions. I definitely felt a little bit better than yesterday but of course I hoped for a faster time. "

Following her victory in Brussels, McLaughlin-Levrone expressed excitement about enjoying the post-track season.
