"I call that the cupcake stage or honeymoon phase" - Noah Lyles and girlfriend Junelle Bromfield on how the start of a relationship should feel like

Noah Lyles and his girlfriend Junelle Bromfield opened up about how the beginning of a romantic relationship should feel, with both sprinters claiming it should be easygoing. The couple also added that despite being more than two years into their relationship, they are still in their "cupcake stage".

Lyles and Bromfield first met online via Instagram in 2017 and the initial efforts of dating didn't work out for them as they decided to be friends. They were talking on and off in the coming years before a gradual shift of feelings started happening after the Tokyo Olympics when the two connected after a long time.

The two began spending more time together in 2022 after Bromfield decided to shift his training base to Florida, the same city where Lyles trains. The 100m Olympic champion proposed to the Jamaican after the 2022 World Championships, and two years in, they claim they are still in the honeymoon phase of their relationship.

In a conversation with Mixed Feelings, the couple was asked about how the beginning of a relationship should feel like. Noah Lyles claimed he called the stage the "honeymoon phase" where everything was cuddly and romantic.

"I call that the cupcake stage or the honeymoon phase and it's like when everything is like sweet and cuddly and everybody's excited because it's brand new and you know you can kind of get away with a lot more because nobody wants to mess up the of the relationship and this probably last anywhere from like three to six months," he said.

Junelle Bromfield gave a similar answer, saying:

"I think it should feel easy because at this stage all we're learning is about birthdays and favorite colors. It's all butterflies everyday."

USA hadn't won a sprinting gold medal in the men's events since 2004 when Justin Gatlin took the 100m title in Athens. Twenty years later, it took Noah Lyles 9.79s to end that drought, edging out the favorite Kishane Thompson by five-thousandths of a second.

Lyles was among the medal contenders in the 100m but his double second place finishes the Round 1 and semifinals had many worrying about his chances. Jamaica's Oblique Seville and Thompson were breathing fire in the initial rounds but the American came out on the top when it mattered the most, running down a whole field to take the ultimate sprinting crown in the world.
