"I'm going to give coach my phone and have him FaceTime you" - Tara Davis-Woodhall emotional on "splitting" with Hunter Woodhall for Diamond League

Tara Davis-Woodhall has shared how she will keep in touch with her husband Hunter Woodhall as she heads to the Diamond League Meeting in Rome scheduled for Friday, August 30. Her husband will not be able to accompany her as he will be in action at the Paralympic Games in Paris, set to begin on Wednesday, August 28.

Davis-Woodhall will therefore be in Rome with their coach Travis Geopfert and she says she plans to have him Facetime Woodhall. Woodhall will begin his Olympic campaign on September 1 for the men’s T64 100m.

In a video shared on the Woodhalls’ shared Instagram page, Davis-Woodhall explained that the Diamond League Meeting in Rome would be the first event where her husband would not be around.

"Alright, it’s finally the day guys. We are leaving the United States and heading to Paris. You are actually going to Rome," Hunter said.

In reply, Davis-Woodhall said:

"Yep."
"Any words?" Woodhall asked.

Davis-Woodhall shakes her head in response. Woodhall added:

"That says enough. So we are splitting up but we'll reconvene in Paris. So, don’t worry guys."

Davis-Woodhall then added that the event would be the first track meet she will be competing at without her husband for company.

"Hunter this is the first track meet you’re not going to be with me."

Woodhall then asked:

"What are you going to do without me?"
"I’m going to make someone FaceTime you. I swear to God. I’m going to give Coach my phone and have him FaceTime you the entire time," Davis-Woodhall said.
"Yeah, I know, I got you," Woodhall says at the end of the video.

Hunter Woodhall will be in action at the Paris Paralympic Games as he looks to impress on the global stage, and has shared that being in Paris to watch his wife perform in the women's long jump helped him in his preparations.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Tara Davis-Woodhall cleared 7.10m to claim the gold medal. Malaika Mihambo and Jasmine Moore finished second and third after clearing 6.98m and 6.96m, respectively.

The 25-year-old told NBC News that watching his wife compete at the Paris Olympic Games and win gold prepared him for the daunting task awaiting him at the Paralympics.

"I’m feeling really good, mentally and physically. Watching Tara in Paris was a really great visualization. So I’m prepared," Woodhall said.

Woodhall started his Paralympic Games journey at the 2016 Rio Games where he claimed the silver medal in the 200m T44 and bronze in the 400m T44. At the Tokyo Games 2020, Woodhall finished eighth in the 100m T64, and claimed a bronze medal in the 400m T62.
