"I'm not going on internet to strangers for advice"- Noah Lyles' girlfriend Junelle Bromfield opens up on importance of therapy after Paris Olympics
Noah Lyles' girlfriend Junelle Bromfield opened up on how she overcame cyberbullying after the Paris Olympics. The Jamaican sprinter had recently attended the podcast of internet personality Simone Clarke-Cooper titled 'Sim Souls Sessions'.
Bromfield discussed the therapy sessions that she underwent after the Paris Olympics, saying (15:15 onwards):
"Well, a lot of my teammates in the Olympics asked me the same question because they always walking around every day smiling, talking to everybody, still, and I told many people before like if this was two years ago, three years ago, I would probably in the corner somewhere, every day crying, but I got introduced to therapy, and I learned my values, and I learned that, what people's opinion doesn't basically matter, because I'm not going on the internet to strangers for advice. So why should their opinions matter?"
When asked if she would forgive the bullies who abused her family, Junelle Bromfield calmly replied (12:44 onwards):
"Honestly, I would say, I'm not looking for forgiveness especially from the people who came in my DM, talking about my family, talking about my mom," said Junelle Bromfield. Those are the people asking for forgiveness and I'm like how are you going to forgive somebody who did not do anything wrong."
Junelle Bromfield is in the USA after representing Jamaica at the Paris Olympics. She participated in the women's 400m and the mixed 4x400m relay events but returned empty-handed.
Junelle Bromfield on the support from Noah Lyles after the cyberbullying
The controversy surrounding Junelle Bromfield started when Noah Lyles talked about his preparation for the Olympics, and how her presence made him acknowledge the potential of the Jamaicans. However, the statement was misinterpreted as the Jamaican leaking out the secrets of her athletic team to Lyles, for which she was heavily criticized and bullied on social media.
Only days after the Paris Olympics, Lyles made an emotional Instagram post, standing by Bromfield's side and praising her tenacity in front of such hatred.
Junelle Bromfield responded in the comment section of the same post and wrote:
"Thank you baby for always supporting (me), long before we even started dating. I remember (in) 2019 you had just became World Champion and my brother passed away. Around that time, in the midst of celebrating one of your biggest achievements, you tried so hard to make me feel better, to help me see the positive in life, and how god will always pull me out of a dark situation.”
Incidentally, Noah Lyles was also a part of the 'Sim Soul Sessions' podcast, and he opened up on how he felt after Junelle Bromfield told him about the cyberbullying she had to endure. He said that he was reduced to tears after hearing it all.
Lyles and Bromfield have known each other since 2017. However, they made their relationship public only in 2022. The two have supported each other on various occasions, including the Paris Olympics, where Bromfield cheered Lyles during his iconic 100m finals.
