"I need to give my body some time to recover"- Femke Bol opts out of Zurich Diamond League 2024 due to illness
2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist, Femke Bol recently announced her absence from the Diamond League meeting in Zurich. The Zurich event is the 14th Diamond League event in the 2024 season and was scheduled for September 5 (Thursday).
The Dutch hurdler took to her Instagram handle to share a story about the sickness that forced her to make this decision. Through her story, Bol stated that she needed some time to recover after her illness and also wished good luck to other competitors in the tournament.
Here is the complete overview of what Bol wrote on her Instagram story:
"Unfortunately I won't be running @weltklassezurich like planned. I've been sick the last days and I need to give my body some time to recover."
She added:
"I've got some amazing memories and I would've loved to make some more this year, but I guess I will have to wait till next year. Good luck to everyone competing there and I hope it will be an amazing night for everyone in the stands."
This absence from the Zurich Diamond League comes after Bol's back-to-back podium finishes at the Lausanne and Silesia Diamond League meets. In Silesia, Bol raced past the finishing line in just 52.13 seconds, an even better performance when compared to her run at the 2024 Paris Olympics Women's 400m hurdles finals.
Femke Bol clinched three medals at the Paris Olympics 2024
Competing at the 2024 Paris quadrennial event, Femke Bol performed strongly to end her campaign with three medals. In the mixed 4x400m relays, Bol ran a superb last leg to take her side past the finishing line in the first position with a combined run time of 3:07.43. She followed up this performance with a bronze medal finish in the Women's 400m hurdles event behind McLaughlin-Levrone and Anna Cockrell.
Bol's third medal at the French capital came in the Women's 4x400m relay event where she played the anchor role again. She ran the fourth lap of the relays in just 48.62 seconds to earn her side a silver medal and register a national record run time of 3:19.50.
