Popular actress Whoopi Goldberg has announced her latest venture - a global sports channel exclusively for women. Goldberg announced her venture when she attended the popular talk show - 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.'

Goldberg talked at length with Fallon about her new venture AWSN. Fallon also posted a video on his Instagram account with the caption:

"@whoopigoldberg is launching the very first global women’s sports channel called AWSN! #FallonTonight"

Goldberg mentioned the purpose of AWSN, and how it will do wonders for women's sports, saying:

"I'm launching the first global women's sports channel called 'AWSN'. That's what I'm talking about. It'll be home for live women's sports from around the world."

When asked about what kind of sports the channel would cover, Goldberg replied:

"Everything from soccer, basketball, tennis, cricket, curling, you name it. If a woman is playing it, we're showing it."

According to Whoopi Goldberg, AWSN will be created in collaboration with Commonspirit Health, the largest Catholic-based hospital chain in the United States of America.

In the same interview, Goldberg mentioned that the idea of an exclusive channel for women's sports was her childhood dream. She added that through AWSN, she would provide the much-needed platform for women's sports, which wasn't available earlier.

While Whoopi Goldberg is well known for her acting prowess and stance on gender equality, she has also been in the limelight for her controversial opinions on various issues. Goldberg has been recently criticized by grocery store owners throughout the nation when she termed them as 'pigs' only days after Donald Trump was chosen as the US President in the recently concluded Presidential elections.

However, this is not the only time Goldberg invoked controversy by her statements. When the Paris Olympics started on the wrong note with the controversial opening ceremony, especially the act that represented 'The Last Supper', Goldberg defended it and called out those who criticized the same.

"If you are not happy with something, and it bothers you, don’t take 20 hours to write an email. Just turn the TV off. Watch something else. Put the newspaper down. Don’t look at the pictures. These are choices, you know, we’re back to this thing. These are our choices. You have the ability. Forget what Instagram is telling you. If you don’t like it, go to something else," Goldberg said a few days after the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics via Fox News.

Whoopi Goldberg was referring to a drag queen act at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, which represented "The Last Supper", a sacred reference to Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity.

The organizers of the Paris Olympics were criticized for allowing this act by several celebrities, from Donald Trump and Elon Musk to even the likes of LGBTQ activists such as Jillian Michaels and Caitlyn Jenner.
