Lindsey Vonn reacts to Simone Biles' 'amazing performance' at the Paris Olympics 2024
Retired skier Lindsey Vonn reacted to Simone Biles' performance at the Paris Olympics 2024 on her Instagram story. Gymnastics qualifiers took place at the Bercy Arena on July 28, where Biles topped the scoring charts.
Vonn is in the French capital to watch and support some of her favorite athletes at the Paris Olympics 2024. The Olympic Gold medallist has also been assigned the new role of chief of athlete experience and will look after the athletes' families at the Winter Games in 2034.
In addition to the likes of Tom Cruise, John Legend, and Lady Gaga, Vonn was present at the gymnastics arena, where she posted an Instagram story showcasing Simone Biles performing somersault on the floor. The former alpine skier wrote a note praising Biles, stating:
"@simonebiles 🐐 does it again! Amazing performance all around!!"
Biles, during her floor exercise warmups, suffered from a leg injury scare. She then briefly left the floor with the doctors and returned with her ankle taped. Despite the injury, Biles topped the leaderboard, posting a superb all-around total of 59.566.
The first task of the qualifying day for Biles was the balance beam, where she gave one of the best performances of her career. She scored 14.733 on the balance beam, advancing to the beam finals.
The 27-year-old then performed an impressive vault routine, featuring her best move, the Yurchenko double pike, which earned her a score of 15.8 points. With this, the all-around score of the USA team reached 172.296 points, placing them ahead of Italy and China.
Seven-time Olympic medallist Biles is expected to go up against compatriot Suni Lee in the balance beam finals.
Lindsey Vonn lit the Olympic torch before the Paris Olympics opening ceremony
Lindsey Vonn, along with many eminent Olympians like Allyson Felix and Lin Dan, among others, lit the Olympic torch ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024. After the torch-bearing ceremony, she expressed her gratitude in an Instagram post for getting the opportunity to take part in such a prominent event, saying:
"I’ve always wanted to hold the Olympic flame… and today I became a torch bearer for the first time with many of my fellow Olympians. The flame is so much more than fire. It’s a symbol of hope, which we desperately need right now. Faster, Higher, Stronger, TOGETHER!!"
The Olympic torch has various traditions attached to it. It signifies the continuity of the Olympic Games, whereby the flame embodies the values of peace, friendship, and unity.
