"Maybe he is playing mind games"- Letsile Tebogo opens up on intense competition with Noah Lyles in the 200m at the Paris Olympics

Letsile Tebogo opened up about competing with Noah Lyles in the 200m dash at the Paris Olympics. The Botswanian topped the discipline, trouncing Lyles who was a favorite for the event, and became the first-ever athlete from Botswana to become an Olympic champion.

Tebogo clocked an impressive 19.46s to stand atop the podium in the 200m race and bested Noah Lyles, who was COVID-19 positive and clocked 19.70s to claim third place. Kenny Bednarek claimed the second spot by recording 19.62s.

After his Olympics campaign, Tebogo is now scheduled to compete at the Zurich Diamond League on 5 September in the 200m event. He appeared in a press conference with Grant Holloway, Masai Russell, and Julien Alfred, where he opened up about his terrific showdown with Noah Lyles in the 200m dash at the Paris Olympics.

When asked how he felt about defeating the American athlete, Tebogo laughed off the question and said that it was "amazing" to be the Olympic champion of the 200m dash.

"I wouldn't put it that way, but it feels amazing to be Olympic 200m champion, because, the whole thing, my mummy passing away, we just put all focus on the 200m, because the 100m wasn't easy, it needed so much work to be done," Tebogo said.

Tebogo explained his strategy and observation of Lyles, adding:

"But, with the 200m, we know that any medal is possible, but me going into the final with what I did on the semi-final, it gave me a confidence booster, but to myself I was like, maybe he's playing mind games, but when he went off the band, I didn't see him on my left, I was like, okay, now it's just time for me to execute everything."

Letsile Tebogo opened up about becoming Botswana's first Olympic gold medalist

Letsile Tebogo recently opened up about becoming Botswana's first Olympic gold medalist in the press conference of the Lausanne Diamond League. He lauded the support he received from the crowd in the stadium and said that he had changed a lot of lives in his home country with the win.

"The support was really amazing to see. 30,000 plus people on the stadium, along the roads, coming back home and I believe my life has changed and I have changed a lot of lives in my home country," Tebogo said.
"I 've been looking forward to not just my country and also for the African continent, because I've shown them against all orders that everything is possible," he added.

After his victory at the Paris Olympics, Letsile Tebogo continued his dominance at the Lausanne Diamond League in the 200m event, where he clocked 19.62s to defeat Erriyon Knighton and Fred Kerley, who secured second and third place in the event.
