Noah Lyles posts heartfelt message as girlfriend Junelle Bromfield embraces her 'melanin' amid Paris Olympics 2024
Track and field athlete Noah Lyles recently posted a heartfelt message for his girlfriend and Jamaican sprinter Junelle Bromfield. Bromfield had shared a post embracing her ‘melanin’ as a reply to the backlash she has been receiving for her failure to surpass the 400m semi-finals at the Paris Olympics. The 27-year-old Olympian showed solidarity with his girlfriend.
On Wednesday, Junelle Bromfield finished eighth in the 400m semi-final race, clocking 51.93s, which ruled her out of the competition. She also secured the fifth position with Team Jamaica in the 4x400m mixed relay race last week. Bromfield was one of the top contenders expected to win gold for her country. She previously won the bronze medal in the 4x400m relay with her team at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. However, Bromfield’s performance at the ongoing Paris Olympics has attracted backlash from her own country.
Amidst the negativity, Junelle Bromfield decided to hit back with a strong Instagram post. The 26-year-old shared a picture of her bowing at the start line of the race track. She also embraced her complexion by quoting a line from American singer Beyonce’s 2019 song ‘Brown Skin Girl.’ It read:
🎶Melanin too dark to throw her shades 🤎🎶
As soon as Bromfield posted this, she received immense support from her fans. Her biggest cheerleader and boyfriend Noah Lyles also expressed his heartfelt reaction. He reshared Bromfield’s post on his Instagram story and captioned it:
“I’M SO PROUD OF YOU BABY”
Noah Lyles, on the other hand, is riding high on his success at the Paris Olympics 2024. He bagged his first-ever Olympic gold medal in the 100m race on August 5.
Junelle Bromfield on how Noah Lyles inspires her
After competing in the 4x400m mixed relay, Junelle Bromfield appeared in a press conference to talk about her performance. She said:
“I went out a bit too conservatively because in the 4x400m relay (mixed final) we were in lane two, and I had too much energy. My coach wanted me to finish strong, so I needed to be more cautious. The race got away."
Bromfield admitted that throughout her time on the track, her boyfriend Noah Lyles remained her inspiration. She said:
“His confidence is rubbing off on me. I’m out here running the individual 400m. I’ve been to the Olympics before, and the world championships, doing the 4x400m relay, and now I have my own lane here.”
Despite losing in the 4x400m mixed relay race, Bromfield was confident about shining in the 400m.
She also talked about the American athlete’s focus on mental well-being which also influences her:
"I feel that energy. He focuses a lot on mental health, and I’m now starting to do that (too). It is helping me a lot.”
Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield have known each other since 2017. They started dating in 2022.
