"One of them tried to stab me" - When Simone Biles opened up about disturbing incident which made her hate her private school
Olympic champion gymnast Simone Biles has been vocal about her tumultuous childhood. She also recounted an incident that made her hate her private school.
In her autobiography 'Courage to Soar: A Body in Motion, a Life in Balance', Biles recalled the time when she was nearly stabbed by a bully. Biles wrote about it,
"I figured out pretty quickly that a lot of the kids at my new school had learning challenges or behavior issues, which is why the classes were kept small. In eighth grade, only seven students were in my homeroom - and one of them tried to stab me!"
Biles also revealed that though she was attacked by the bully with a pocketknife, she somehow managed to save herself, and ran to the school office. However, her pleas were ignored until her adoptive parents, Ron and Nellie Biles intervened. Biles further mentioned,
"My parents were pretty upset when I told them what had happened. They went in and talked to my teachers, who made sure to separate me from Brandon for the rest of the year. Since we all knew I wouldn't be at that place for much longer, they let it go at that."
Simone Biles initially attended the Benfer Elementary School in Harris County, Texas. By 2012, she switched to homeschooling, which allowed her to focus more on gymnastics.
Simone Biles on the childhood mischief that made her mother very disappointed
Despite her turbulent childhood, Simone Biles enjoyed each moment of it. However, there was a moment when one of her childhood mischiefs went a bit too far.
In her memoir 'Courage to Soar,' Biles recounted the moment when she threw a rock into the swimming pool of her neighbor with her sister Adria Biles. The adventure soon turned into a habit, though they didn't realize that their rocks were destroying the filter of the pool.
One day, when they were caught red-handed, the incident was reported to their parents, which left their mother Nellie Biles thoroughly disappointed. Biles mentioned in her memoir,
"After the man left, we got the scolding of our lives, not just for throwing the rocks in the man's pool, but also for lying about it."
In a Facebook Watch series published in 2021, the American gymnast also reflected on the bond between her and her siblings, especially Adria Biles. In her words,
"I wanted to take care of Adria, obviously, because she was the baby. And I just felt like I needed to look out for her, because if family doesn't look out for you, who is going to?"
Simone Biles went on to make a name for herself in artistic gymnastics. Her adoptive parents and her siblings have been her strong pillars of support. Ron and Nellie Biles even attended the Paris Olympics in order to cheer for the 27-year-old gymnast.
