Riley Gaines makes her feelings known as Nebraska Volleyball qualifies for the National Semi Finals

Riley Gaines recently reacted to the knockout match between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Wisconsin Badgers at the NCAA National Volleyball Championships. The women's volleyball team from Nebraska qualified for the semifinals after defeating the team from Wisconsin in straight sets by 3-0.

Gaines shared a video clip from the match on her own X handle, writing:

"Heckuva game. Big Lexi Rodriguez and Harper Murray fan. Congrats to Nebraska Volleyball!"

This season is a special one for the Cornhuskers, since it would be the last time their skipper Lexi Rodriguez would be seen in action. In November 2024, the skipper issues an emotional post that was shared on the Cornhuskers' official Instagram page. She wrote:

"To all my teammates, coaches, staff, and all of husker nation, thank you for giving me so much love & support, you guys truly made this place feel like home! It has been a privilege to put on the Nebraska jersey these past 4 years and represent such a historical program. I am leaving this program a more confident & joyful Lexi Rodriguez, and I hope I was able to impact this place as much as it impacted me!"

Previously, Riley Gaines was in the news for her viewpoint on Caitlin Clark's comments after she was awarded 'Athlete of the Year' by the Time magazine. She also slammed a journalist for her views on Clark's triumph.

Riley Gaines has been outspoken on several issues, especially the exclusion of trans athletes from women's sports, for which she has been campaigning since 2022. The 24-year-old swimmer-turned-social activist had recently slammed a journalist for her approach on the Lia Thomas issue.

As previously mentioned, Gaines had called out journalist Jemele Hill for her condescending views on Caitlin Clark. The former reporter from ESPN responded by posting on her X handle [formerly Twitter]. She wrote:

"Girl, you need to thank Lia Thomas every day of your life for helping you get famous, otherwise you would have been just a decent college swimmer that no one knew. You wrote the book on grifting — not me."

Gaines replied by writing:

"I've faced threats and violent attacks for my stance. You've got to be clinically insane to desire that for yourself. I do what I do because it's the right thing and at the time, few were."

In another post, Gaines called out Hill for her stance, as she further added,

"How deeply regressive & utterly misogynistic for Jemele Hill to tell me to thank a man for the platform I have. Thank him for what? Violating us in the locker room? Stealing a national title from a deserving woman? Indirectly stripping us of our 1A rights? Just say you hate women, @jemelehill."

Riley Gaines had campaigned against the bias shown towards Lia Thomas at the 2022 NCAA Swimming Championships. Her efforts were partially successful, when World Aquatics announced in June 2022 that no trans athlete would be allowed to further participate in elite women's events.
