Sha'carri Richardson sends word of caution to her critics after season opener setback

Sha'Carri Richardson recently sent a word of caution for her critics after her season opener setback. The double Olympic medalist had finished fourth in her season opener, which was held in Tokyo in May 2025.

Richardson uploaded a mirror selfie to her Instagram profile. She wrote in the caption of her Instagram story:

"The countdown"

In another of her Instagram stories, the 25-year-old sprinter shared a quote, which simply mentioned:

"Let whoever think whatever"

Richardson had shared similar thoughts a couple of weeks ago on her X timeline. The double Olympic medalist sprinter had written in the caption:

"June is here and I truly have no fear for the rest of the year🙏🙏"

After finishing 2024 on a slightly disappointing note with her performance at the Diamond League finals, Sha'Carri Richardson had opened her season with a time of 11.47 seconds at an athletic meet in Tokyo. Though it was a considerable improvement, Richardson didn't finish among the top three.

Richardson hopes for a strong performance at the Tokyo World Championships, which will be held at the National Stadium in Tokyo by September 2025.

Sha'Carri Richardson also spoke about how she felt after joining the Athlos meet for 2026. The double Olympic medalist sprinter will join as an advisor-owner for the next season.

In her interview with ESPN, the Olympic champion opened up about the new responsibility and how she wished to use it to promote women's sports further.

"I take pride in doing what is right for people. Joining ATHLOS as an advisor-owner gives me the opportunity to create something that genuinely empowers people both on and off the track," she said.

Alexis Ohanian, the founder of the ATHLOS meet, also expressed his delight at Richardson's arrival. He said:

"Gabby, Sha'Carri, and Tara represent a new generation of athletes who have put this sport on their shoulders and deserve to be compensated for being the standard-bearers. We were focused on bringing them into the league as founding owners."

Sha'Carri Richardson is also one of the few prominent athletes who has not participated in the much-talked-about Grand Slam Track League.
