Simone Biles reacts to Cecile Landi being honored with Coach of the year award
Olympic champion gymnast Simone Biles was overjoyed when her coach Cecile Landi was rewarded by the USA Gymnastics. The former head coach of USA women's gymnastics team has been honored with the Women's Gymnastics Coach of the Year Award.
The Frenchwoman has been associated with Biles since 2017, when she joined the World Champions Center in Spring, Texas. She mentored her during both the Tokyo Olympics as well as the Paris Olympics.
Biles took to Instagram to react to her former coach being rewarded for her efforts. She wrote in one of her Instagram stories:
"No one deserves this more!! Truly lucky to have been coached by her!"
Biles was not the only one who was ecstatic on Landi being awarded with this honor. Jordan Chiles recently wrote on her Instagram story,
"As she should!"
Simone Biles is currently leading the second season of the 'Gold over America Tour'. The troupe recently performed at the TD Garden Arena in Boston, Massachusetts. The troupe will now perform at the CFG Bank Arena today in Baltimore, Maryland.
Simone Biles on Cecile Landi leaving for University of Georgia
The seven year old association between Simone Biles and Cecile Landi had come to an end in April 2024. The University of Georgia had announced that Landi would be joining them as the co-head coach of the university's gymnastics team. However, Landi had made it clear that she won't be joining the university officially before the Paris Olympics.
After the Paris Olympics, it was time for Landi to leave the World Champions Center, which she had served for seven years. She wrote in an emotional post on Instagram,
"Thank you to the entire WCC family for your endless support and love I've felt these past 7 years [emoji]. Thank you to all of my athletes and their parents for your trust and commitment to our program. I can't wait to see what the future holds for y'all [heart emoji]. Forever WCC PROUD."
Biles also responded on a rather emotional note, as she wrote on her Instagram story,
"End of an era. It's not a goodbye, it's a see you later"
At the WCC, Landi not only trained Simone Biles, but also gymnasts like Jordan Chiles, and Joscelyn Roberson. Roberson was one of the standby participants who had accompanied the USA Women's Gymnastics team at the Paris Olympics, in case someone backed out at the last minute.
Simone Biles performed brilliantly at the Paris Olympics, as she won three gold medals and a silver medal, taking her total to a whopping 11 Olympic medals. She is not only the most decorated female American gymnast ever, but also joint-second with Czech gymnast Vera Caslavska in terms of being the most decorated gymnast ever.
