Spencer Lee gears up for Final X while eyeing spot for World Championships
Spencer Lee is gearing up for the Final X tournament with his aim crystal clear: a ticket to the World Wrestling Championships. The Olympic medalist wrestler will be competing at the Final X tournament, which will be held on June 14.
Lee uploaded glimpses of his training for the Final X tournament on his Instagram profile. The 26-year-old wrestler will be competing against Luke Lilledahl in the best of three finals.
Lee wrote in the caption of his Instagram post,
"Competition Saturday ! Looking forward to competing for the world team spot for Team USA!"
Lee opened up about the upcoming Final X in an interview, as he mentioned [via Hawk Central],
"That was the pinnacle of our sport and unfortunately I wasn't able to get it done. I felt like I was ready to go and I did everything right. That wasn't meant to be that day, so all you can do is saddle back up and get ready for the next best thing. For me, it's Final X."
Spencer Lee has previously won gold medals in both the U17 World Championships and the U20 World Championships. He will be aiming to earn his first senior medal at the World Championships, which will be held at Zagreb in Croatia later this year.

Spencer Lee once recounted his reaction after winning the silver medal at the Paris Olympics. In his interview with Gazette.com, Lee discussed what could have gone wrong in the finals. In his words,
"Didn’t put a lot of effort. So, I didn’t deserve to win today, and that’s OK."
In another interview with USA Today, Lee revealed that he thought of removing his silver medal altogether. Lee said,
"First thing I thought of was to take it off, but that's OK, right? "You can get a laugh out of that, right? I don't even have it anymore. I gave it to my sister. I don't even know where it is."
In his Olympic debut at the quadrennial event held in Paris, Spencer Lee cruised towards the finals with ease. Despite giving a tough competition to Rei Higuchi, the world champion wrestler from Japan, Lee lost the finals by 2-4 and eventually had to settle for a silver medal.
