Initially, Stephen Nedoroscik was to accompany the gymnasts led by Olympic champion and gymnastics legend Simone Biles for the second 'Gold over America Tour'.
However, when he was selected for the current season of 'Dancing with the Stars along with rugby sevens' player and Olympic bronze medalist Ilona Maher, the American gymnast had to let it go.
Stephen Nedoroscik at the Paris Olympics
It has been two decades since the USA last won an Olympic gold medal in any event of the men's artistic gymnastics. Paul Hamm last won an Olympic gold medal in the individual all-around event.
Since then, male gymnasts struggled to deliver an impressive performance at the Olympics. At the Tokyo Olympics, the USA had to suffer the ignominy of returning without any Olympic medal in men's gymnastics for the first time since the Moscow Olympics in 1980, when the USA and some other nations had boycotted the event.
However, this time, Stephen Nedoroscik and his team of gymnasts were more than prepared. Team USA was ranked fifth overall in the preliminaries. However, they managed to qualify for the finals with a score of 253.229. Nedoroscik participated in only the pommel horse event. However, he scored the highest amongst all participants with a score of 15.200.
Nedoroscik once again participated only in the pommel horse segment. However, he scored an impressive 14.866. The American team, comprising gymnasts like Brody Malone, Asher Hong, Paul Juda, and Frederick Richard, scored an overall total of 257.793 to secure a historic podium finish. This was Team USA's first Olympic medal in the men's team all-around event since the Beijing Olympics held in 2008 when they won a bronze medal.
However, the American wasn't done yet. He scored 15.300 to win the bronze medal in the individual pommel horse event, overcoming British gymnast Max Whitlock by just 0.100 points.
