"Those fiances be speaking facts you know" - Noah Lyles' indulges in casual banter with teammate Melissa Jefferson
Olympic champion Noah Lyles was involved in some light-hearted banter with Olympic teammate Melissa Jefferson. It all began when Jefferson recounted her experience of playing the video game 'Call of Duty'.
Speaking about her experience with the game, the 23-year-old said that she should be streaming herself playing it, something that her fiance said for eight months.
"So I’ve come to the conclusion that, after 8 months of my fiancé telling me I should stream while playing cod , I should actually stream," Jefferson wrote.
Noah Lyles replied to this by posting,
"Those Fiancé’s be speaking facts you know."
Melissa Jefferson endorsed his approach with just two words, as she wrote,
"And do"
Melissa Jefferson recently signed up for the much awaited Grand Slam Track League, which has been founded by former Olympic champion and sprinting legend Michael Johnson. Other prominent athletes who have signed up for the league include Cole Hocker, Yared Neguse, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Kenny Bednarek and Josh Kerr.
The Grand Slam Track League was announced in February 2024 by Michael Johnson, with an aim to popularize track and field beyond the purview of the Olympics. The first edition will be conducted from April to September 2025.
Melissa Jefferson on Tyreek Hill challenging Noah Lyles for a race
Melissa Jefferson has also stood up for Noah Lyles on a couple of occasions. A few days after the Paris Olympics, the 27-year-old was mocked and challenged by NFL player Tyreek Hill for a 50-meter dash.
"Sign that contract and lock in that 50 yard race," Hill said.
Jefferson responded to Hill's comments by saying:
"Uh what," followed by a set of laughing emojis.
It all began when Noah Lyles had called out the status of 'Super Bowl' champions as 'World Champions', just as he did for the NBA league champions. He was subject to massive criticism, and Tyreek Hill challenged for him for a one-on-one sprinting contest.
Like Noah Lyles, Melissa Jefferson won an Olympic gold and an Olympic bronze medal at the Paris Olympics in 2024. She finished behind Julien Alfred of St. Lucia and compatriot Sha'Carri Richardson to clinch the women's 100m bronze medal.
The 23-year-old later ran the inaugural leg of the women's 4x100m relay finals, with the team recording a seasonal best of 41.78 seconds to win the Olympic gold medal for the first time since the Rio Olympics in 2016.
