Gabby Thomas was seen hugging an emotional Sha'carri Richardson after they won that relay gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The two were part of the 4x100m relay team that won gold after clocking a season-best 41.78 seconds in the final.
Richardson entered the Paris Olympics with hopes of winning the gold medal in her debut appearance at the marquee event. She, however, had to settle for silver in the 100m as St. Lucia's Julien Alfred took home the gold.
The 24-year-old made amends in the 4x100m relay alongside Thomas, Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry. Richardson anchored the team well. With the baton in her hand, she soared past Germany, France, and Great Britain to cross the line and seal the gold medal.
Later, Richardson was seen crying during the medal ceremony. She got emotional while the national anthem was played and Gabby Thomas was quick to hug her.

Gabby Thomas: "Passing the baton off to Sha'Carri Richardson is a very special and unique thing
After clinching the gold medal in the 4x100m relay, Sha'Carri Richardson stated that she was confident in her teammates heading into the final. She also said that she trusted Gabby Thomas to pass the baton without any issues.
“The moment I will describe is that to realize when we won as USA ladies, it was a phenomenal feeling for all of us. That’s the answer to your question,” she said.
“I just remember trusting my third leg, trusting Gabby, and knowing that she’s going to put that stick in my hand no matter what and to leave my best on the track,” she added.
Thomas reciprocated the feelings, stating that it was very special and unique to be able to pass the baton to Richardson during the race.
“Obviously passing the baton off to Sha’Carri is a very special and unique thing. She is so fast,” she opined.
Collective, all four sprinters in the 4x100m relay twam had a good Olympic campaign. Richardson bagged two medals, Thomas won three golds (200m and 4x100m relay), Jefferson clinched two medals (bronze in the 100m) and Twanisha Terry had her gold in the 4x100m relay event.
