WATCH: Olympic champion Mondo Duplantis gets pleasantly surprised by gesture from Red Bull after breaking the world record for the 10th time
Mondo Duplantis is on cloud nine. He broke his world record multiple times, winning at the Paris Olympics and the Wanda Diamond League in the same year. The Olympic champion has now received a pleasant surprise from Red Bull.
The energy drink company recently posted a video on its Instagram account, where the Swedish pole vaulter was handed over a can of Red Bull. Duplantis opened the can, but when he looked closely, he couldn't believe his luck.
The post was captioned as:
"Now available in store, near you" [Translated].
The can of Red Bull carried a photo of Mondo Duplantis and his world record-breaking throw. Duplantis was overwhelmed by the gesture from the energy drink giant.
Red Bull also sponsored the much talked about 100m dash between Mondo Duplantis and Norway's Karsten Warholm, the world record holder in the men's 400m hurdles. The race occurred just a day before the Zurich Diamond League.
Duplantis won the race hands down, clocking a personal best of 10.37 seconds. He went on to win the Diamond League for the fourth successive time for the men's pole vault event since 2021 when he won the Diamond League finals for the first time.
Mondo Duplantis' best performances in the 2024 season
At the Paris Olympics, there wasn't much doubt about Mondo Duplantis winning gold. Since 2020, the athlete has been on a world-breaking spree, having broken Renauld Lavillenie's record of 6.16m not once, not twice, but a record seven times before the 2024 season had even begun.
The Swedish-American pole vaulter began his season in style, breaking his world record of 6.23 m by a centimeter at the Xiamen leg of the Diamond League 2024. Duplantis then proceeded to the Paris Olympics and won his second consecutive Olympic gold medal by creating a new world record of 6.25m.
However, Duplantis wasn't done yet. At the Silesia leg of the Diamond League 2024, he broke his own world record to jump to a height of 6.26m. Though he didn't break any records at the Wanda Diamond League Finals held in Brussels, he created a meet record with an attempt of 6.10m.
With that, Mondo Duplantis is the second most successful pole vaulter with four consecutive wins at the Diamond League after Renauld Lavillenie of France, who won the tournament on seven consecutive occasions, from 2010 to 2016.
