The official page for Los Angeles Olympics 2028—LA'28 took to their official Instagram account and shared a reel of Lee and her fellow gymnasts. The video starts with Lee being asked which superpower she would choose if given the option, to which the 21-year-old replied,
"Okay, ..... maybe like time travel. But I feel time travel is so basic."
Lee then asked Olympic bronze medalist Brody Malone about his favorite pastry, to which he replied,
"Like, a croissant? Croissants are good"
Malone's answer was followed by a series of images of him holding a huge croissant. The 24-year-old tested Evita Griskenas, who had recently represented the USA in the individual all-around category in the women's rhythmic gymnastics event at the Paris Olympics, on her French skills. To which the latter replied
"This is everything I know... Ready?"
Evita Griskenas then pronounced a few conversational terms like 'Good Morning' in French, ending with 'And that's it.'
Olympic champion Suni Lee made a resounding comeback at the Paris Olympics. Despite being diagnosed with a career-threatening kidney disease, the 21-year-old American gymnast proved her mettle with a gold and two bronze medals.
Lee won a gold medal in the team all-around event, and two bronze medals in the individual all-around and the uneven bars event, respectively.
Suni Lee's health struggles and her journey to the Paris Olympics
Before the Paris Olympics, Suni Lee had several doubts over whether she would even make it to the quadrennial edition or not. She was suffering from a rare kidney disease that threatened to ruin her chances for the Paris Olympics, as well as her career as a whole. Due to this, the Olympic champion had gained 40 pounds in less than a week and her body was extremely swollen. In her words,
"I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror. I didn't even recognize myself."
On further diagnosis, it turned out that Suni Lee was affected by two rare kidney conditions, both of which she has refused to disclose for now. However, she overcame these hurdles and gave her best performance in order to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
Suni Lee participated in four events, viz. the team all-around event, the individual all-around event, the balance beam, and the uneven bars. Lee qualified for all four events, as well as participated in all four of them.
Suni Lee contributed to the gold medal performance of Team USA in the women's team-all-around event, their first since the Rio Olympics held in 2016. Lee then edged out Alice Amato of Italy by a close margin to win the Olympic bronze medal in the individual all-around event.
Despite tumbling during the warmup, Suni Lee won another bronze medal in the uneven bars event. However, she couldn't sustain herself in the balance beam finals and ended up in the sixth position. With a total of six medals from two Olympics Suni Lee is the third most decorated female American gymnast after Shannon Miller and Simone Biles.
