"We've reached the end of an intense season"- Marcell Jacobs ends underwhelming season after losing the Olympic title to Noah Lyles at Paris Olympics

2020 Tokyo Olympics medalist Marcell Jacobs recently announced the conclusion of his 2024 track and field season. This comes just a month after his disappointing 2024 Paris Olympics campaign.

The Paris quadrennial event saw Jacobs lose his 100m Olympic title to Noah Lyles. Besides, Jacobs also failed to clinch a single medal at the Summer Games, a contrasting performance compared to his outing three years ago in Tokyo when he bagged two gold medals.

Jacobs took to his X handle to announce this decision and also reflect upon his performances in the 2024 season. The Italian said he is quite content about his performance, especially with the numerous under-10-second runs he managed to pull off in the season.

Besides, the Italian track and field athlete also remarked about his performance in the Men's 100m and 4x100m relays at the Paris Olympics. He wrote:

"We’ve reached the end of an intense season.💫 This year, we achieved important milestones, like running under 10 seconds in multiple races, something I hadn’t felt in a while. We brought Italy to the final in both the 100 meters and the 4x100 relay, and I’m proud of the journey I’ve been on."

In his tweet, Marcell Jacobs also mentioned his goals for the 2025 season, a year in which he is vying for a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships scheduled next year in Tokyo.

"Now, my focus is on next year, with one goal in mind: Tokyo. It’s a track that holds so many emotions for me, from my first Olympics, and I can’t wait to return and relive those unforgettable moments," he added.

Competing in his second Diamond League event after his 2024 Paris Olympics campaign, Marcell Jacobs failed to clinch a podium finish in the Men's 100m run of the Rome Diamond League meet 2024.

The former 100m Olympic champ produced a disappointing performance and finished ninth in the standings. Jacobs managed a run-time of 10.20 seconds to finish last in the 100m event that was eventually won by 200m Olympic champ, Letsile Tebogo (9.87 seconds).

Jacobs' performance in the Diamond League events throughout the 2024 season has not been at par with his standards. The 29-year-old failed to manage a single top-three finish in these events and his best finish across the three Diamond League events he competed in was fourth, a feat he achieved in Silesia and Oslo.
