What happened to national gymnastics champion Kara Welsh? All about University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnast's unfortunate demise

A 21-year-old gymnast from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, Kara Welsh, was shot dead on Friday (August 30). The incident happened in an apartment at Whitewater Street in Wisconsin near the University's main campus.

Police officials found Welsh's deceased body in the apartment on Friday at midnight. A statement released by the investigating officials suggests that an unknown 23-year-old man was also present in the apartment in Wisconsin and is also the main suspect behind the crime.

Reports also state that the 23-year-old was someone known to the Wisconsin native even though any sort of relationship between the two hasn't been established yet.

The statement reads:

"Also present in the apartment was a 23-year-old male who was known to the deceased female. Through investigation, it was determined that leading up to the shooting, an altercation had occurred between the two."

Police have nabbed the 23-year-old suspect and detained him at the Walworth County Jail in Eikhorn. The officials have pressed charges for first-degree homicide and disorder conduct against him.

Corey King, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin announced this unfortunate news to the students and other university members on Saturday through a message. He said:

"We know the news of Kara’s death is heartbreaking for our close-knit university community. It is a time when we are all called upon to support one another, to process, and to grieve."

The University also announced a ceremony in remembrance of the Wisconsin gymnast which was scheduled to be held on Monday (September 2) in Plainfield.
