Following the completion of the Olympics, several top athletes will now focus on the upcoming Diamond League events, among other competitions. The World Athletics U20 championships is also scheduled to take place during the remainder of the year.

The 2024 Paris Olympics is done and dusted, with the track and field events, as expected, capturing the attention of fans worldwide. Records were broken, dreams were achieved, memories were made as well as a few inevitable heartbreaks. The Stade de France made for a great host as more than 70,000 fans cheered on rain or shine.

Sha’Carri Richardson, one of the biggest names in the game now, came into the event with the weight of her nation's expectations. She bagged the silver medal in the women's 100m and then had a blistering anchor leg in the women's 4x100m relay to give Team USA the gold medal.

Staring down Germany’s Rebecca Haase and Great Britain’s Daryll Neita before crossing the finish line only made it all the more iconic. And then there's long jumper Tara Davis-Woodhall, who manifested her way to Olympic glory.

During the final, she walked a long way to have a conversation with her husband Hunter Woodhall, and on her way back, she stopped at the sand pit, looked at the sand pit pointing to a mark with her hands together.

Davis-Woodhall then took off and her jump was recorded at 7.10 meters, making her just the fourth US woman to clinch Olympic long jump gold. She was a great zone mentally and it showed with her next jump too, which crossed the seven-meter mark (7.05 meters) once again.

Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis is used to breaking records in pole vault, and he did it again in Paris. He first broke the Olympic record with a jump of 6.10m and then flew over the bar at 6.25m to break the world record for the ninth time in his career. He secured the gold with ease, as was expected in the months leading up to the event.

There are many more incredible stories from the Paris Olympics and while the dust settles on the event, fans need not wait long for more athletics action. Here's a look at what is in store around the corner:

Athletissima, Diamond League

Athletissima is an annual athletics meeting that takes place in Lausanne, Switzerland. Having earlier been a part of the IAAF Super Grand Prix events, it became a part of the Diamond League (the highest-level international track and field circuit) in 2010.

Some of the best athletes in history have taken part in this event over the years. Notably, Liu Xiang set the 110 m hurdles world record (12.88 seconds) in 2006. When it comes to meet records, Yohan Blake ran 100m in 9.69 seconds while Noah Lyles is at the top in the 200m with a 19.50-second effort.

This year's event is scheduled to get underway on August 22 at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise. Mondo Duplantis is set to compete here.

Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, Diamond League

The Kamila Skolimowska Memorial is an annual track and field meeting held in Chorzow, Poland in the summer. Also called the Kamila Skolimowska Throwing Festival, the inaugural edition took place at the RKS Skra Stadium in Warsaw in 2009.

The event was part of the inaugural World Athletics Continental Tour in 2020 before joining the Diamond League series two years later. This year's event is scheduled to take place on Stadion Slaski on August 25.

Golden Gala, Diamond League

Golden Gala is an annual track and field event that takes place in Rome, Italy. Like the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, it was earlier part of the IAAF Golden League before moving to the Diamond League in 2010.

It has been a popular meet over the years, with as many as ten world records being set at the Gala. After last year's event was temporarily held in Florence, it returns to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on August 30 this year.

World Athletics U20 Championships

The World Athletics U20 Championships is a biennial athletics event organized by World Athletics. It initially began as the IAAF World Junior Championships in 1986 and was later renamed the IAAF World U20 Championships in 2015. The IAAF changing its name to World Athletics 2019 saw the event take its current name that year.

The 2024 edition of the event is set to take place in Lima, Peru from August 27 to 31. The National Stadium of Peru will serve as the main venue.

Weltklasse Zurich, Diamond League

Weltklasse Zurich is an annual, invitation-only, track and field meeting that takes place in Zurich, Switzerland. Like the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial and Golden Gale, it was earlier part of the IAAF Golden League before joining the Diamond League.

It is one of the more important events on the calendar as it generally serves as a final of the Diamond League. This year the event is set to take place on September 5.

Memorial van Damme, Diamond League

The Memorial van Damme is an annual athletics event that takes place in Brussels, Belgium. This year, it will serve as the sole final of the Diamond League, making it one of the most awaited events of the season.

First organized in 1977 in honor of Ivo Van Damme, a Belgian double medal winner at the 1976 Montreal Games, it was a part of the IAAF Grand Prix and IAAF Golden League before moving to the Diamond League in 2010.

This year, the event is scheduled to be held on September 14 and 15 at the Boudewijnstadion in Brussels.

Athlos NYC league

Away from the Diamond Leagues and World Championships, this year will see a brand-new athletics event take flight - the Athlos NYC league. It is a women’s track event aiming to inspire the next generation of athletes, with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams' husband, being the brains behind the operation.

The meet is set to feature some of the sport's best athletes in business currently, including world record-holder Faith Kipyegon, Olympic medalist Gabby Thomas, and World mixed 4x400m champion Alexis Holmes.

The event is set to take place on September 26 at Icahn Stadium, the same venue where the USATF New York City Grand Prix takes place.
