Ancient Apocalypse Season 2: Release date, cast, plot, and everything you need to know
Netflix’s Ancient Apocalypse released its first season back in 2022, with noted journalist and author Graham Hancock as the narrator. The series released a total of eight episodes in its first season. It deals with various pseudoarchaeological theories about the existence of an advanced civilization during the Ice Age.
Hancock was seen visiting various prehistoric archaeological sites in search of evidence for such a civilization. The series postulated that these sites, as well as the evidence of such a civilization were erased due to a meteor bombardment around 11,900 years ago.
The series has the following official synopsis:
“What if everything we know about prehistory is wrong? Journalist Graham Hancock visits archaeological sites around the world investigating if a civilization far more advanced than we ever believed possible existed thousands of years ago.”
Now, Season 2 is set for a Netflix release on October 16, 2024. The production for it was hindered due to opposition from various indigenous groups. However, fans will be delighted to know that actor Keanu Reeves is also set to feature in the upcoming season.
Ancient Apocalypse Season 2: Everything we know about
The addition of Keanu Reeves is undoubtedly the biggest update released yet about the upcoming season. Reeves is set to be a part of the entire Season 2, and will join Hancock on his adventures across continents. The two will be seen diving into further ancient mysteries and will attempt to explore exactly how some of the ancient sites were created by prehistoric civilizations.
Season 2 is set to continue the journey. The ancient civilization in question was said to have been wiped out somewhere between 12,800 and 11,600 years ago. Season 2 is set to take place across the Americas, even though Season 1 focussed on various locations around the world.
The upcoming season will take the team across sites in countries such as New Mexico, Peru, and Brazil. The first season of the show had garnered considerable controversy, despite receiving a 7.2 rating on IMDb. The Society for American Archaeology (SAA) had accused the show of promoting pseudoscientific theories and diminishing the credibility of archaeology as a whole.
The SAA had even sent a letter to Netflix, in order to get the series reclassified as science fiction. While Season 2 is set to receive similar scrutiny, it is set to feature a range of ancient sites in the Americas.
Ancient Apocalypse Season 2 cast
Apart from the addition of Keanu Reeves, Graham Hancock will once again return as the host of Ancient Apocalypse. Season 1 also included a range of experts from various universities and scientific organizations joining in, to talk about their own views. The same can be expected to be followed in the upcoming season.
The following experts are confirmed to be a part of Season 2:
- - Dr. Chris Davis, an American archaeologist
- - Dr. Alceu Ranzi, a Brazilian paleontologist
- - Dr. Sonia Cardinali, an archaeo-botanist from Easter Island (Rapa Nui)
Produced by ITN Productions, the above cast members can be expected to lend further sincerity to the exploration of ancient civilizations in Ancient Apocalypse. The series has been directed by Marc Tiley, with the addition of Reeves in particular set to take things up a notch.
Ancient Apocalypse will be available on Netflix, starting on October 16, 2024.
