Complex issues apology to Twitch streamer Chrisnxtdoor a day after Kai Cenat criticized the media outlet
Complex magazine has come out with an apology after accidentally accusing AMP member Chrisnxtdoor of inappropriately messaging minors, confusing him with Kai Cenat’s cameraman, Chris V. The magazine had been called out by Cenat himself, who promised to never work with Complex due to their lack of due diligence.
Five days after the mixup, Complex issued a statement on X, apologizing to Chrisnxtdoor:
“During the overnight hours of July 30th, 2024, Complex erroneously published a story involving members of the AMP Collective. The story, which detailed allegations of inappropriate behavior involving a minor by cameraman Chris V., conflated the accused with streamer Chrisnxtdoor in the body copy and featured lead artwork that included Chrisnxtdoor. When the error was brought to the attention of the editorial board, all associated social postings were deleted immediately, and the story was promptly amended with a correction.
Complex then apologized for its lack of diligence and claimed it had fired the writer responsible for the article:
Complex would like to extend a sincere apology to Chrisnxtdoor and all those affected by this lapse in journalistic diligence. Complex has severed its relationship with the writer responsible for publishing the post in question, and the editorial board has instituted new protocols to ensure that mistakes of this nature do not happen again.”
The reaction to the apology was not very positive, with many people questioning the delay.
Kai Cenat reportedly intends to cut ties with Complex after the lapse
Complex reported on the controversy surrounding Kai Cenat’s cameraman on July 30, 2024. While the facts of the matter were correct, they mixed up Chris V with Chrisnxtdoor. The article was updated shortly after and a correction was issued. However, the damage was already done and several people were offended, including Chrisnxtdoor. In response to the news, the AMP member posted:
“Complex delete this pic of me rn n*gga. And take down this article do research before you type something up. Shit not cool”
Chrisnxtdoor threatened to take legal action in his Twitch stream following the event. The streamer also claimed that Kai Cenat had decided to stop working with Complex in the future:
“"Kai already said don't want to do sh*t with y'all n****s no more, bro."
It remains to be seen whether the latest apology will play a role in changing Kai Cenat’s rumored decision to avoid associating with Complex.
