Why is Logan Paul suing YouTuber Coffeezilla? Details of the lawsuit explored

Back in late 2022, YouTube star and current WWE athlete Logan Paul faced some serious allegations made by fellow YouTuber and self-proclaimed internet investigator Stephen "Coffeezilla." These allegations centered around Logan's involvement in his unfinished Crypto Zoo project, an NFT-based game, where he was accused of swindling millions of dollars.

A lot has happened since then. In the past year and a half, Logan has sued some of the individuals involved in the project. However, it appears that the controversy has a new update with the WWE star also suing Coffeezilla this time (June 2024).

Readers should be reminded that this is the second time such a legal issue has arisen. Logan had initially sued Coffeezilla in January 2023, but quickly retracted the legal notice and instead laid out a three-step plan to reimburse those who had lost money in the project.

What is the new controversy between Logan Paul and Coffeezilla? Lawsuit explored

Logan Paul is well-known for issuing legal notices to those who have made remarks against him or companies he's associated with, such as Prime Hydration. His latest target of a lawsuit is YouTuber Coffeezilla.

The news of the legal notice was first shared by verified X.com user Rob Freund (@RobertFreundLaw), who also attached the 47-page document of the lawsuit. Let's have a look at what it says:

"Plaintiff Logan Paul, a globally recognized entertainer, athlete, and entrepreneur, brings this defamation action against Defendant Stephen Findeisen, a/k/a “Coffeezilla” - a self-described investigative journalist and “internet detective” with no actual journalism training or a private investigator’s license - to hold him accountable for maliciously and repeatedly publishing false statements accusing Paul of operating a scam in connection with a troubled blockchain project called CryptoZoo."

The issue seems to stem from the fact that, despite other members being involved in the so-called scam, Coffeezilla chose to title his investigative videos using Logan Paul's name. The legal notice states (Page 3):

"Defendant Findeisen understood that accusing a celebrity like Paul of perpetrating a scam would generate exponentially more clicks, views, and ultimately revenue, and would increase his own profile."

The document also alleges that Coffeezilla intentionally hid certain information from viewers to frame Logan Paul:

"Because they did not fit his preferred, self-serving narrative, Findeisen purposefully concealed all those communications from his viewers, save for select messages that he manipulated and intentionally presented devoid of context."

The document also reveals the amount of money that Logan and his legal team are seeking - $75,000 in damages:

"This Court has subject matter jurisdiction over this action pursuant to 28 U.S.C §1332 because there is complete diversity of citizenship among the parties and the amount in controversy exceeds $75,000.00, excluding interest."
