2024 WNBA Season Final Power Rankings: New York Liberty finish season on high, Las Vegas Aces make strides

2024 WNBA Season Final Power Rankings: New York Liberty finish season on a high, Las Vegas Aces make strides

The 2024 WNBA regular season reaches the final week, and the New York Liberty is poised to take the top spot. The 2024 WNBA playoffs begin Sunday, but there's still a lot to fight for, for teams that have made the postseason, and for sides that are battling for the No. 8 seed. The Chicago Sky, Washington Mystics and the Atlanta Dream are locked in a three-way battle to bag the final playoff spot.

In the top seeds, the Liberty will have to be wary to not drop games with the Minnesota Lynx (29-9) in hot pursuit, courtesy of their six-game winning streak. The Connecticut Sun (27-11) are just two games over the Las Vegas Aces (25-13) and will hope to take the No. 3 seed as the two-time defending champions breathe down their necks.

Meanwhile, the Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury have locked down the No. 6 and No. 7 seeds. The jousting for the No. 8 seed will be one to watch out for in the final week of the regular season. In our final week, the New York Liberty are the team to beat, and take the No. 1 spot, while the Aces have finally looked the part of defending champs after a wobbly 25-13 run. But they continue to nail down a spot in our top five, as do the Sun and Seattle Storm.

2024 WNBA Season Final Power Rankings: New York Liberty take top spot, Las Vegas Aces take 3rd place

#5. Seattle Storm

The Seattle Storm ensured there were no more slip-ups, winning five of their last six games. While an argument can be made that two of them came against the LA Sparks and Dallas Wings and aren't playoff-bound, they are wins nonetheless.

Up next, they face the Las Vegas Aces, a team they have gone 1-2 this regular season. Their offense is still hot and cold this season, and that is a cause for concern.

#4. Connecticut Sun

The new-look Connecticut Sun ft. Marina Mabrey is still figuring out how to make its potent offense a notch more lethal. In the process, they have lost three of their six games, with two of those defeats coming against the Aces.

They play their last two games at home and that's an advantage, but losses could see them tumble to the No. 4 seed and face the dangerous prospect of playing Indiana Fever — a team that's widely regarded as a surprise contender to make a deep playoff run.

#3. Las Vegas Aces

The Las Vegas Aces owe their second half of the campaign's wins to A'ja Wilson. And despite their struggles, they are still bonafide contenders for the WNBA championship. They have every chance to finish at a higher seed than No. 4 if they end their run with wins over the Storm and the Wings.

Their defense and lack of depth are glaring weaknesses, but Wilson's rich form has seen them stack up wins and fancy their chances of a three-peat.

#2. Minnesota Lynx

The Minnesota Lynx are on a rich six-game winning streak. They handed the New York Liberty an 88-79 defeat, and have been one of the teams where their superstar has been complemented perfectly by the rest of the outfit, Napheesa Collier's return from injury.

The Lynx likely face the Mercury in the first round, but if they continue to be a force on both ends of the floor, there is every chance of seeing them win their next title after last winning in 2017.

#1. New York Liberty

The New York Liberty has been clinical and consistent, and the two combined to see them become the first team to book a playoff spot. They have been getting past the top five sides with wins in comfortable fashion, including beating defending champs Aces twice on the road.

They are seemingly a cut above the rest and are favorites to win the championship – but with the Lynx and the Aces behind them– it's much easier said than done as New York looks to bag the silverware.
